I enjoy it a lot. It‘s like Twitter ten years ago. If Twitter was never your thing, then it’s probably not for you.
Of course it may all change down the line, but then something else will come along.
For now, there are no adds, no algorithms pushing crap towards you, the people are nice, and Quebec being somewhat small, it’s just nice for me to interact with members of the same community. You can follow feeds filled with people who have similar interests (art, gaming, politics, etc.) The moment someone starts being an asshole, everyone just blocks, and they vanish. You can even subscribe to “block” feeds. Someone makes a feed of people with MAGA in their bio or whatever, and once you subscribe, they are all blocked ha ha. It’s wonderful.
Apparently, they will offer paid subscriptions, but I think many will gladly pay for it if it stays the way it is now.
The upstart X competitor says the paid features will be feature based and will not give users an algorithm boost or a verified checkmark.

Anyway, it’s the only social I’m actively on. I’ve never tried Threads, have no interest in Facebook, IG, TikTok, Snapchat, and I just couldn’t really get into Mastodon.
