I don't think it's Italian Catholics in particular. Rather, there's a long tradition of support for the far-right in Catholicism (Spain's General Franco, for example, or the Croatian Ustaše), just as there's a similar tradition of support for the left.

I've always idolized Fellini. And I'm not even Italian.

But, truthfully, modern politics reminds me of the post-war Absurdist movement. And Donald Trump, the man with not even a concept of an ideology, is leading the charge. How frickin absurd is that?
