I realize now that the grounded crow living in the bushes near my house (we named him 'Gus') must have been a fledgling. He looked pretty big for being unable to fly... and we were worried about him so we called animal control. They came and got him, and we got email later saying he'd seemed to have recovered and they released him back into the neighborhood.
