Just what would a furry Jesus be? A camel?
If I remember right, scripture compares him to "the lamb of God". A ritual sacrifice to take away sins i.e. when Abraham substituted a ram for sacrificing his son Issac. So Jesus is God's sacrifice for humanity.
I'm not in the right mind-frame to understand it, either. Something about ancient contract law and sacrificial rituals. I remember in that period oaths and verbal contracts were binding, with the consequence of losing one's reputation within the local community being a really, really BAD THING.
