Just for the sake of discussion, let's say 20% of welfare parents will spend all t he money on recreational drugs and not help their kids at all. That is a high figure based on the stats I could find. Does that mean we just tell the other 80% to go fuck themselves??? Manchin's stated reason is such obvious dogshit.

It shows what he thinks of his constituents, too.

Yeah, even if Manchin were to be voted out over this (is he even running next time?), it's not like his successor will cross party lines to vote for a Democratic bill. And no matter how angry West Virginians may be over his opposition to BBB programs that would bring them some much needed aid, they won't vote for a true Democrat when election rolls around. Because abortion. Because fill-in-the-blank that carries more weight with them than all the funding that Dems are trying to provide.

And no real Democrat is going to make it through the primaries anyway. Because corruption.

Speaking of corruption, Senator Manchin has helped kill off voting reform, and dark money played a role. In West Virginia some groups were acting to influence Senator Manchin himself but also with direct political action within the state of West Virginia. Republican legislatures across the country are acting to make it easier for such groups to hide their funding, and only a minority of Democrats are working to bring more transparency to the process.

So, more or less agree - the comments though - Everyone has some ego, but to say Bernie is an egotist is.... well, think its maybe a little... harsh.

The latest "Electric Power Monthly" report from the Dept. of Energy came out today. With 11 months of 2021 reported, coal is running 5% below the 2019 level (pre-pandemic), so it is still on the way out. Renewables as a group are up to 93.7% of coal, and are expected to pass it in a year or so. So Manchin's money train is going to stop running at some point.
