I pretty much decided to get rid of Spotify, because I keep getting splash screen ads when I open the app. I don't pay to get advertised to on the internet. I mean, I know Joe Rogan fans all had some kind of meltdown when he started running ads on spotify, and I thought it was funny then, because I don't really use spotify for podcasts, and fuck Joe Rogan fans, anyway... but now that they are shoving ads in my face, I'm cutting them off.

Also, I recently discovered YouTube Vanced, which is an android app, that seems to give me free YouTube Music service. I'm going to recreate my most used spotify playlists on YouTube and use Vanced, instead of Spotify. It's free, there's no ads, and YouTube pays artists more fairly than Spotify does.

Chrome was really pissing me off tonight. I had to ship off my laptop for repairs so am using my love's laptop. The up and down arrow keys weren't working to scroll web pages up and down, which is something I do constantly. The cursor acted like it was in a word processor or something moving up and down each line and getting stuck on some element of the page. WTF is this? I went incognito. Same problem so not an issue with extensions. I tried Edge. No problem there.

As it turns out, Google made some feature called caret browsing which is supposed to be for selecting text with the keyboard. All you have to do to activate it is press F7 though. That's stupid! It's so easy for someone to press accidentally. The easy fix is to press F7 again if you happen to know that's what to do.

I think Firefox has something like that but it only jumps between actual links and you have to turn it on and off in preferences.

Edit: just hit F7. That's new. Looks like Firefox now has caret browsing but it pops up a modal dialog telling you about it, and you have to click "YES" to actually turn it on. You have to click a checkbox and hit YES to turn this dialog off and jump straight into caret browsing.

I don't know a lot about what Joe Rogan is about, but every time I hear about him, it makes me think he's kind of not a great guy with an audience I'd ever really want to associate with.

Euh...

If you ride the Boring Company’s Las Vegas tunnel, known as the Convention Center Loop, you might be tempted to ask your driver about the company’s founder Elon Musk. But don’t expect a straight answer. The company has a script for its drivers and TechCrunch got its hands on what employees are supposed to say. It’s every bit as ridiculous as you’d expect from a company run by the second wealthiest person on Earth.

When drivers are asked whether they enjoy working for Musk, they’re instructed to reply, “Yup, he’s a great leader! He motivates us to do great work,” according to a script obtained by TechCrunch through freedom of information laws in the state of Nevada.

I've decided to start migrating and consolidating some of my various email addresses down so I've been changing some account information and let me just say, sites that don't let you change you account email address, are really annoying.

I feel like the end result is just going to be... now I'm regularly checking 7 email addresses instead of 6.

Side note, the process itself is relatively painless, as I have gone to a lot of work over year sot keep all of my accounts and emails organized as hell. I have 6 email addresses but I am essentially always at "Inbox Zero" for all of them. I also am hyper aggressive about unsubscribing from mailing lists I no longer care about.

Yeah, I keep a half dozen or so email addresses around as security. I set them up more as a ring than as one main with a bunch of less used accounts. If any one account gets hacked, I always have another, on a totally different service that people probably don't know about, set up as the backup verification account to recover it. Somebody might control one or even two accounts for a few hours, if I'm asleep or something, but it would be difficult to permanently deny access to any one account without taking down the whole ring of accounts simultaneously. I guess they could reset the backup verification address on an account, but I don't think most people breaking into email accounts care about any individual account enough to mess with that setting. Even if they did, if I can contact a customer service rep, they will see how things were changed, and it will be an easy fix. It's not always easy to get customer service for your email, but it is sometimes possible.

Walmart Plus is a thing now!

This plus thing is totally out of control. Did this all start with Google Plus? Google Plus was a disaster, but that doesn't explain why they haven't defended their trademark on it. I mean, I assume Google Plus was a trademark. How did Google lose control of their Plus trademark so completely?

Google Plus wasn't the first "something plus" name scheme.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I just looked around, and I can't find anything older than Google Plus. Wikipedia says Google Plus was launched June 28, 2011, so I'm trying to find something named Plus that's older than that.
