Or even that they were terrified, and they didn't care. Because how could they not have been? A couple three might have thought they were safe, but no one else can be that stupid.
That was pretty much the first huge chunk of today's case. That and the actual attack with time stamps, security footage, and dispatch recordings.I really hope they get around to documenting the fact that:
This wasn't simply spontaneous incitement, it was a -premeditated- insurrection.
Starting with an outreach in plain sight to the 'Proud Boys' with his 'stand down and Stand By!" debate 'gaffe'. Whether that was intentional or not, it was clear they responded favorably to being singled out and instructed to wait for further orders.
Which they got, when he INVITED them and other delusional loyalists... to come to D.C. ON January 6th for a rally timed shortly before congress would be certifying the vote, with a theme and messaging that urged -action- to stop the certification and intimidate those that wouldn't overturn the election results.
He could have held his vulgar lie filled masturbatory display anywhere in the country, but he specifically had it held within walking distance of the Capitol Building. Law Enforcement and the National Guard knew about the rally and the threat but were given specific orders that left them understaffed, lacking much of the normal equipment they would bring to a potential riot... and unable to respond in a timely fashion if they weren't some of the few already on site.
"You gotta fight! You gotta fight like never before or you won't have a nation!" -- given the timing, the audience, the emotional lead up over the many weeks leading up to it; here's no way any reasonable person could dismiss those clear marching orders from the president as 'mere hyperbole'. If there's any 1st amendment doubts about his right to instruct his loyalists to 'stop the steal' it shouldn't be his right to express that idea, it should be that he's using his power as the president of the united states to violate the first amendment rights of every person that voted against him in the election.
He told his thugs them to be ready. Told them to come. He gave them orders. Named their targets. Aimed them at the Capitol Building and they attempted to do exactly what he told them to.
And if evidence comes forward showing that he ordered, approved or even knew that the Capitol Building be so woefully undefended on a day that everyone knew was a highly charged and high risk event, he shouldn't just be convicted... The Senate should sentence him and his conspirators to life in federal prison with hard labor, without parole.
I doubt the Senate, despicable trash that they are, will convict, but I trust that Trump will spend the rest of his life in court if not in jail.I really hope they get around to documenting the fact that:

I want this to be true in Alabama enough to elect a Democratic Senator in 2022. My area, and surrounding counties, tend to vote Democatic but the bulk of our state is solid red. We now return you to your regular scheduled topic.
I'm sure that, with his skilled defence team, he has nothing to worry about.Meanwhile, Fulton County GA District Attorney opens criminal investigation into Trump
Georgia's state capitol, where Raffensperger's office is, is in Fulton County, along with 90% of the City of Atlanta.
As I'm discovering as I catch up. Glad they aren't pulling any punches! (Couldn't follow it live while my roommate was around earlier today, he's got deadlines and the slightest bit of politics gets him too worked up to focus)That was pretty much the first huge chunk of today's case. That and the actual attack with time stamps, security footage, and dispatch recordings.
And the blackmail threats too much for the cowards to handle?
I have never been sure if it was blackmail, payola, or threats to kill you or your family or dog.And the blackmail threats too much for the cowards to handle?
I think several of the senators are worried that evidence of their complicity with Trump's attempted insurrection may be emerging. And the blackmail threats too much for the cowards to handle?
Several?I think several of the senators are worried that evidence of their complicity with Trump's attempted insurrection may be emerging.
Why not all three?I have never been sure if it was blackmail, payola, or threats to kill you or your family or dog.
Yes, and seriously, if I were Cruz or Hawley [or anyone else involved] I'd be voting to convict in the hopes maybe they won't look too close at me afterwards.I think several of the senators are worried that evidence of their complicity with Trump's attempted insurrection may be emerging.
It's a bit of an odd trial where many of the jurors have already expressed their determination to acquit no matter what, several of them may themselves quite possibly be co-conspirators, and one of them wanted yesterday to give evidence as a witness.
The sooner Merrick Garland is confirmed and the Justice Department can get onto the case, the better!
They can't do anything, probably, against the ex-president, but they can still convict the conspirators inside of congress, which would activate the 14th amendment. The DOJ isn't going to be able to do a damn thing about the traitor, at least in regard to his incitement. It would be seen as purely political. The traitor would surely be howling as would his sycophants/fellow traitors. I am thoroughly disgusted by the entire thing, completely and thoroughly disgusted by the so very many people who don't care about or don't understand democracy and am losing hope that he will ever face justice in any manner.
I'm becoming resigned to the fact that we will probably have him in the office of the president once more and god help us all.
