Boeing discovers issue with 737 Max flight computers, source says

The source said the issue is not related to the software revisions Boeing made to address the cause of two fatal crashes that killed 346 people, and would not occur during flight. The Max has been grounded since March following the second of those crashes.

The computer issue was observed when booting up the computers on a Max and involves the so-called software power up monitoring function, which checks for anomalies when turning on the computers. It's similar to the steps any computer might make when first turned on. The source said the process of turning on the computers is performed when the plane is on the ground, rather than in flight.

The source said the test was intended to find any issues like this one and that Boeing would fix the problem.

LOL tell you what, IF these things ever get certified again they're going to be the safest darn planes in the sky. They're going over these things with a microscope. Which, you know, is what they should've done to begin with.

I think a lot of passengers will not be happy if they see that they have their trip with a 737 Max in the future, whether it is gone over with a microscope or if it is blessed by the pope personally. That plane is done, my guess is customers will not have it.
Even the name Boeing has got some serious dents and bruises over this. This simply should not have happened with a quality brand like that.

Seriously, they're made about 50 miles from my house, and I'm surrounded by Boeing people, or people who work for Boeing suppliers. This is Very Not Good for my local economy.

Also, how I managed to put that post in "What the hell Darnk" instead of "Nobody Cares (Science & Tech)" is a mystery to me.

I guess you wanted to blame Darnk for the mess up.

More seriously: They have such a long history of building reliable airplanes.
So how on earth could this happen? Greed, scared for competition from Airbus, arrogance of a market leader, mismanagement?
There has to be a lot more inspected under the microscope than just the plane itself.

And I know how important Boeing is for the upper north west of the USA. A cousin of mine lived there for several years. Her husband worked for Boeing almost his whole career.

Let's hope that this disaster will not bring down the whole company.
