This is a wonderful thread. Just finished The Immortalists, thank you Myradyl Muse, and now reading Overstory, thank you Roxanne Blue. On the hold list for A Little Life thank you Arilynn.

I'm also reading One Piece because our public library surprisingly has a manga section in their online collection. Color me surprised and impressed. It'll take a while to get through the series and then maybe I'll reread Hyperion Cantos which has lived on the shelf for many many years un-re-read because damn.

Just finished System Collapse, #7 in The Murderbot Diaries.

It's...OK? It still has plenty of Murderbot's sensibilities, and the story was pretty well paced and interesting. But I don't know, some of it felt a bit of a slog for me to get through. Maybe I'm just dealing with series fatigue?

reading the Iron Druid series for the first time ever.
Loved that series and grabbed the spin-off "Ink & Sigil" (and its sequel) on audiobook. Fantastic reader, there's lots of accents to cover and he does them all so well!

I'm storming through Will Wight's 'Cradle' series (in audiobook form) at the moment, trying to pace myself (I'll listen to a book twice because sometimes I get distracted and miss stuff the first time through, and they're not that long). Fun characters, excellently read.

Tá Gaeilge agam, so those names and phrases come naturally enough, but the Indian and Egyptian, so far, have prompted a bit of we'll just call them Herb.

Listening to audios twice is a good practice. I'll add Ink & Sigil and the Cradle series to the list but it will be a while.

I've read three books by Kevin Hearne. For some reason, with 2 years in between each book. Hounded; The Purloined Poodle; and The Squirrel on the Train. The last two are novellas starring Oberon the Irish wolfhound.

Full disclaimer, I *hate* raisins, so does the main character in Ink & Sigil, and the book starts with a delightfully cranky Scottsman ranting about how evil they are. I was -immediately- hooked. ;)

I reserved it at the library before it even came out, but still haven’t heard back. I should just buy it. After having just binged the whole series in one go, maybe I’ll have series fatigue, too.

I received a couple of books for my birthday, one of which is 1Q84 so I’ll be reading that.

We are on the same track then, since I am rereading Kafka on the Shore by him.

Would anyone familiar with the U.K. care to beta a short story I'm writing for a friend in Second Life as a Yule gift? It's a bit on the alt side but nothing selacious, more teasing than anything else. I am presenting it to her and others at a sim party on Friday night SL time.

A friend turned me onto this book, which is what made him join Second Life - it is very reminiscent of it:

Ninety-fifth in line with eight copies in flux. The estimate is "months" but one thing I like about the virtual library is the automatic feature of the hold list. It'll notify me periodically and remind me of the title.

There are apparently 3 Large Print copies of that book in my library system. All checked out. I'm now the second hold on it.

There's 12 copies of the 'normal' version available, no holds, but I can't read that version.

If you don't feel like waiting and $10 doesn't break the budget, Amazon has a used copy from a reseller for 5.99 + $3.97 shipping, delivery by the 28th. Amazon.com

I can barely get through it. I just have no interest in the story, and I can’t remember who everyone is.Too many people I don’t necessarily care for. Or I’m simply not in the mood, idk. Maybe I’m also “fatigued”.

Still love Murderbot to pieces, but I don’t think I have the courage to finish this one. I feel like a quitter ha ha.

Right now I'm reading "Albert Smith's Culinary Capers - the first five books" by Steve Higgs. Great series if you're looking for an easy read and love detective stories and animals (you get great insight into what Albert's dog Rex is thinking and it's hilarious). I also absolutely love the culinary twists to the plots and the histories of the food that follows after the story is finished. Higgs is obviously a guy who loves food and critters and for that, I'll probably read more of his books. He is a very prolific writer.

I just finished reading The Thousand Earths by Stephen Baxter.

I kind of enjoyed the read? I found myself skipping over pages of exposition from time to time. And I don't think I missed a thing by doing that. Some of the ideas in the book are pretty big ones, but one was so big - and I felt so ludicrous - I nearly stopped reading at that point. But I plowed on to the end (and the end took a while to get to from that reveal). Baxter hits on some human-level issues but I wasn't feeling it that much. The problems of a space and effectively time traveling astronaut getting older and continually grumpier as he closed in on the end of all things didn't capture me all that much. Maybe you need to be in a certain mood for that?

I'm not sure I enjoy reading galaxy (or galaxies, in the case of this book) and time spanning SF stories like I used to when I was younger.

I'm halfway through Brent Weeks' massive 5 book Lightbtinger series (starting with "The Black Prism"), it's kind of taken over my life. Mood-altering magical system, seen from 4-5 very different narrative perspectives. Interesting friends and foes, cultural baggage, necessary lies, loyalty and secrets. I can't wait to see where it's going and how it will get there. :)

For a very long time I heard people mention Discworld as this great fantasy series. HumbleBundle had a bundle with the series and so I have been reading the first book, The Color of Magic.

And.... Is this a great series? Because this book, kind of sucks?

Like it might be ok-iah, but the structure is funky (no chapter, WTF?) And it just feels really randomly random. I am like a quarter or a third of the way through and I honestly have no idea what is happening aside from this dude with a spider treasure chest and this other dude who isn't really a wizard who has been excorting him, and they have just been doing things in this city. And sometimes they are together but sometimes they seem to not be, but it's not clear how or why they got separated, and I just, don't know.

I am not sure I want to even finish this book, much less the series.

Edit: Maybe I should just try another book, because I googled "Discworld sucks" which I do sometimes when I get in a state like this on media, and came across a Reddit thread of people basically saying, Color of Magic is drastically different than the other books and many saying it's not good or it put them off the series, but they came back and liked others books.
