I played "Last Ninja 2" on my C64 decades ago and was quite surprised when I found out that someone had made a remake of this song.

Even more surprised when I found out that it's the original composer, Matt Gray.

How this piece was used in the series / music:

"Cowboy Bebop" was a true game changer and is still one of the most beloved animated shows.

And Yoko Kanno is one of the best and most respected composers for anime and video games.

Apart from being the person behind the OST for "Cowboy Bebop", she was also a composer for "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex", "Wolf's Rain", "Macross" and others.

I love that she has such a huge range and easily hops from one genre to another.

When I think of Feist, I think of this:

Apple doesn't sell iPods anymore, which I think is a mistake.

I really appreciate Fleet Foxes unique style, but I also like it when they aim a bit more mainstream (then I can try and trick friends into listening to them).

I love JJ Cale. It would seem Bill Wyman does, too. He has done an album that sounds like he somehow resurrected JJ and recorded a bunch of new tunes. Very laid back, very tasty. (He credited JJ in the liner notes.)

Dates in songs
Sometimes they are obvious.
He jumped. "It was the 3rd of June" and Billy Joe Mcallister went over the bridge.
Or Commander Cody was sentenced in "July 27 1973 for armed robbery" (riot in cell block #9)
But then there is Earth Wind and Fire singing "Do you remember the 23rd of September?" with no other reference to the date in the song. Do you think that was a special date to them or picked randomly?

Because it is the International Red Panda day, and Fire loved pandas.

There is a thread this would fit right into about non American music but I can't remember the thread name. Oh well.

This is a favorite song of mine by a Canadian group, Gruppo Sportivo, sung in English after a short introduction (in Dutch?) called Mission A Paris performed in the Netherlands (Hi Sid) in 2022, first recorded many years ago. One of the best songs featuring women playing kazoo too!

I never get this lucky, where someone like Courtney Barnett is just playing in a park I happen to be walking through.
