Does using weed make you a nicer person? Results can vary. (WP, paywall)

A study of 85 regular cannabis users and 51 nonusers asked participants to complete a test that measures empathy. Researchers also used brain imaging to study some of the subjects, analyzing a region of the brain that plays a central role in mediating the empathic response.

Cannabis users scored higher on a part of the test that assessed emotional comprehension, or the ability to understand another’s emotional state. In the imaging section of the study, cannabis users had greater connectivity in areas associated with emotional and empathy-related regions.
All I know is that I'm much more likely to send a few bucks to save children from cancer or puppies from freezing to death if I've partaked. Doesn't even take much and BOOM! I get all empathetic!

Just don't, whatever you do, turn on the Home Shopping Network.
That's more Ambien. You sit down and the Ambien Walrus takes over. I had a co-worker who periodically got these huge shipments from Amazon he didn't remember buying. He'd go around the office giving people weird stuff because he didn't want to return it all.

I used to smoke cannabis regularly and felt like I was becoming a bit too dependent on it. I wanted to cut down but still enjoyed the relaxing effects, especially how it made me more empathetic and connected. Switching to a vape really helped me with that. The VIHO Supercharge Pro made it easier to manage my intake because it’s a disposable vape. It gave me the same effects without the harshness of smoking, and I found it to be a much better alternative as I worked on reducing my dependence.

Look for the lower THC percentage and higher CBD. This will allow the amount of THC in your system to lower while still getting the benefits.

My daytime is usually no lower than 12% and no higher than 18% THC; nighttime is at least 20% up to 30%. I try to find at least a "registerable" amount of CBD (0.01%) up to about 0.2% since anything over than is like snorting coke; it numbs the sinus cavities.

I wonder if its more, it decreases anxiety and relaxes you, which lets empathy through more instead of worry and fear.
My thoughts exactly. There has been other research that the best way to make someone more conservative is to scare them. The best way to make someone more left is to make them feel more powerful. Bad clickbait media makes people more right wing. Relaxing people by any means probably increases empathy a bit.

Reminds me of someone I met in group a while back. Within a week of taking Ambien, she bought a car. She already had a car, didn't need another, and couldn't afford it, but couldn't resist just buying one.

Found this old thread while searching for something else. I've noticed the same effect, after taking my prescribed medical cannabis oil, I feel more patient, less reactive, and generally more understanding toward others. Not sure if it's true empathy or just the anxiety fading, but the difference is noticeable.

Sure, sure. But does anything feel more spam-inducing?
