Wow, you are right! The original photographer photoshopped the surrounding rocks and the far shore to be more orange. They must have been standing on the ground under the right side of the rail. Who knows? Seeing how they changed the color of the surrounding rocks, maybe they put the gray slime on too.

People vandalize stuff along the shoreline all the time. Christo was just one of the bigger examples.

It occurs to me that the black stuff could even have been a gift from a storm, "Here, you dropped this. Got some other of your stuff, too. Please come and collect it. About 3.5 billion tonnes of it."

Also, there are some artificial creatures on the rocks counterclockwise from the Yankees fan. Do you know their story?

I do not, the biggest actual ants in Sydney are only an inch long. I haven't gone down that walk and the closest I've been to it was the pool at the Bondi Icebergs club over 40 years ago.

Edit: BTW it's the best swimming pool in the world.

Edit: I didn't do a lot of swimming, the old guys got cranky at kids in the pool if we weren't serious about laps, mostly I hung on the railing on the outside wall waiting for the breakers.
