Figured I'd kick off a thread about Mike Flanagan's newest.

It's really good so far, IMO!
As often with his stuff, it's a bit of a guessing game at first regarding what direction the whole thing will go, but then the series settles into a nice and very character-driven horror-mystery.

It has easily beaten Haunting Of Bly Manor for me, which I think still is the weakest of his Netflix works so far - though that still might be because of the cash-grabby Haunting-Of-Hill House-like name. That one still remains his best.
One could argue 'Mightnight Club' is too close to his 'Midnight Mass' in name, but the name has a connection to an integral story element.

I'm halfway (I think?) at binging through the series so far, and I'm glued to the seat.

I've been looking forward to this, but trying not to expect too much and set myself up for disappointment.

Just a few days ago, I watched Mike Flanagan's Ouija: Origin of Evil. Not that strong a film, but it was fun watching the familiar ensemble of character actors, especially Henry Thomas.

I agree that Bly Manor is the weakest of the TV series, and yet I watched it a 2nd time with Mrs. Beebo and enjoyed it thoroughly. So even mediocre Flanagan is worth watching.

I watched the first couple of episodes last night and loved it. Well written and interesting characters. Their Midnight Club reminded me a little of the Chowder Society in Peter Strauss book "Ghost Story". I love how they are stories within the story. I love that our Midnight Mass antagonist Samantha Sloyan (Beverly Keane) has shown up in Midnight Club too. Not sure if she is an antagonist or a protagonist yet. I think she is a good actress though.

Also as someone who has taken care of terminally ill family members and had my own health issues as well, I completely understood why kids would want to go there. When you are ill, you lose control. Your life decisions are put on hold or often completely taken away while you "fight" the illness. Brightcliffe Hospice kind of returns control and decisions about what life they have left to them.

This show was quite a roller coaster. At times I considered giving up thinking it was too teenage for me. Other times I thought we were going in a horror paramormal direction. And at times incredibly poignant and touching and I had to wipe away tears. I’d be reluctant to recommend even though I ended up enjoying it because it’s hard to name the mood you need to be in to like it, and even harder to describe the genre in order to manage someone’s expectations
