Two first episodes were fun.

Had to rewatch last season’s cliffhanger before watching part 2. The whole Gorn story was a tad unbelievable, but in a way that reminded me of TOS so, fun action (don't ask too many questions) with a sprinkling of
Alien franchise
thrown in.

The 2nd episode made me laugh, and also brought TOS to mind.
Spock: “My feet are perfectly warm!” ha ha

John de Lancie voicing “Trelane”s dad (Q?)

Nice little Easter eggs.

I think the reason I like SNW so much is because of the crew.

The showrunners confirmed the spoiler, even if the episode didn't come right out and say it.
Of course in the Novels (which aren't canon) the fanbases belief that the spoiler was already true back then was confirmed a LONG time ago.

I've been reading up on the next series: Starfleet Academy. And...I think I'm done with Star Trek in the new era. I'm not interested in a rebuilding hope theme. I don't know what the Burn was, and I have no interest in watching back through Discovery to find out. I've punished myself enough. (You can skip explaining it to me if you happen to know. I honestly don't care.)

Strange New Worlds is bright and colorful and I'll probably keep watching that while it lasts, if only to see just how high Pike's Peak can reach (what hair product they must have in the 23rd Century!). But I do find they spend a lot of time revisiting known haunts, trundling down previously-travelled roads and picking up the occasional stray from TOS. Speaking of, Trelane was fun (Rhys Darby did a fine job), but didn't he feel a bit older and more knowledgeable of the "present time" than the Trelane we knew from the first series, which is set slightly in the future? I know, I know: wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff. Oy vey.

I know you said to skip explaining it, but it is so stupid I have to take this opportunity to do so:
All ships containing (okay maybe 99.9%?) dilithium crystal fueled engines exploded. Discovery investigated. Big dark secret? what caused the destruction? A child living on a dilithium rich planet was sad. No, really, that's why. He was sad. And cried. And yelled, and because ...fuck-if-I-know... his crying caused all dilithium crystals (though not on his specific planet) in ships to explode. That's the burn.

And I told myself I was not going to read any attempt at explaining it. But...

I never finished Discovery, the never ending story was getting confusing and not entertaining enough for me, but I really liked the crew. I’m sure I’ll be tuning in at first for Starfleet Academy, just to see wha it’s like, but not sure if I’m really that interested in that age group, heh. We’ll see.

I love the crew on Strange New Worlds , and how it’s mostly episodic (can I say that, “episodic”?) It’s just simple fun.

The sequel will probably be better.

I finished Discovery and enjoyed it, but it did start to get a little weak by the end.

Ok, tonight’s episode had some cringy trying-to-funny bits, even though I can appreciate what they were going for. Maybe I’m just a humourless bag of puss.

That beginning was hard to get through.

The end (the bloopers) was worse.
I'd agree, but the benefit for the end bloopers was that it was the end. As in, I feared the entire episode was going to be like the opening. I was waiting for the opening credits and the bit right after that to see if I'd continue the episode or just turn it off. I've never stopped watching Strange New Worlds so that would have been a first.

I will say that Paul Wesley does a pretty good job of doing a bad William Shatner.

Don't click if you haven’t watched the latest episode.

I was sad to see Gamble go. 😔
I liked him. He was sweet and it was nice to see a young new character that was so excited to be part of the crew.

Wonder what the meaning of the crackling screen at the end was.

Red Alert: Very Much Spoiler Below
My thinking is that the static is either the evolz or Gamble, possibly both, encoding themselves somehow. Now that the ship has, whether they're using it or not, holo technology, there exists the possibility of a medical assistant based on Gamble's personality and using his appearance. There is, of course, also the possibility of manifested intra-dimensional Gorn hatred.
Backing up a week (I just binged to this point), the endcaps were okay because they were only endcaps, but the plot was okay. I did wonder early on if she was the murderer and would have to figure that out but I never ever suspected the generated culprit. That was a really great twist.

I will say that Paul Wesley does a pretty good job of doing a bad William Shatner.
Also he tried to do the Riker maneuver, failed and destroyed half of the Captain's chair in the process. Which is even more fun on the meta-level, because Jonathan Frakes directed that episode.

Anyway I am not so fond of this whole episode, because a) the main story plot idea - be careful when giving the computer orders how to create a holodeck story - was already done way better in the TNG episode where Data had to fight Professor Moriarty.

Also the part playing on the holo deck was for me half hommage to TOS and fan service, the other half story. The hommage didn't really work too well for me, and the story was just bland. Just merely passing by.

The best thing in the whole episode was the small retro TOS stoned lookalike property set and alien. And with the production budget they got they could have build a little bit more than that.

And the explanation why shutting down the power supply to the holo deck made no sense for me, because when not being powered the gravity fields are just gone and cannot do any harm. The whole B plot made not much sense to me.
