Actually Lower Decks is a surprisingly nice series, especially for season 1. For first season it is already quite strong. It's got nice references to all types of Trek, it also feels like Trek while managing to have a much lighter tone in it. It's full of stereotypes, like the strange technician - Rutherford, newbie which finds all kinds of stuff exciting - Tendi, rebel without a cause - Mariner and the clumsy guy who desparately wants to get a higher rank and always trys to follow the rules - Boimler.

Only shortcoming is that many gags are not yet as funny as they could have been, the show could be funnier. But overall a pretty good performance. From all new trek shows this is so far the best.

Season 2 comes out August 12th the same day that season 3 of Titans comes out.

There already is going to be a season 3.

Lower Decks is the best parts of TNG and DS9 mixed with the parts of Farscape and Legends of Tomorrow that were inspired by someone eating too many mushrooms. It's maybe better than Rick & Morty right now.

We enjoyed watching the mashup you're describing before any of the shows actually existed. We even had alternate reality cast members in the second season, or was it the first, or maybe both. It was the most sublime train wreak of a television series we'd witnessed to date.

It's even more of a wreck once you realize that the 1st season of Space:1999 was originally supposed to be the second season of UFO.

and UFO always struck me as a really bad and terribly confusing train wreck of a live action sequel to Captain Scarlett ha ha ha
