I drive clunkers, I get attuned to "normal" noises, and if anything varies, I know something's off. XD
It's either "yah, it'll do that" or "oh, goddammit."
Having to slap the shifter a few times* to get it to start is just more theft prevention.
*iffy park-safety switch, but eh, she still starts after a few love-taps so bugger it. It's a 20 yo Diamler-Chrysler product --that's just one of the many electrical oddments that I don't feel especially compelled to delve into.
