At first reading my Chemo addled brain read it asWhat is a food desert?
Republicans and their selective memories.![]()
Who wants to explain things to Christina?
I had to look her up before I was -sure- this was 'a bit'. Those mendacious mouthpieces Spicer, Huckabee, Conway and McEnany left my ability to spot parody in the Intensive Care Unit, where it's been battling for survival ever since.
It's equally difficult to tell her from the real thing here, too.I had to look her up before I was -sure- this was 'a bit'. Those mendacious mouthpieces Spicer, Huckabee, Conway and McEnany left my ability to spot parody in the Intensive Care Unit, where it's been battling for survival ever since.
His questions seemed nearly as bad as her ability to sound credible. It's equally difficult to tell her from the real thing here, too.
Unfortunately,. Nadine Dorries is all too real and our Minister for Culture, Media and Sport
I get that. I would have expected him to pivot to more specific questions like: "Did your 'communication' with PM cover any specific changes his administration will be making 'put matters right' in light of the recent scandal?" But instead he asked about the PM's 'mood' and 'attitude towards government' of someone who all but admitted that she hadn't actually spoken with the PM recently.I think he was just completely nonplussed by her strange reaction to perfectly ordinary questions. Johnson started the week by saying that he understood why people were so angry about the parties in Downing Street during the lockdown -- which was far, far more severe than anything you in the US, I think -- and he was taking steps to put matters right.
People are skeptical about this, since many see him and his personality at the root of the problem, and the rest of the week has seemed to many just more of the same, with more and more Conservative politicians expressing disquiet, two of his cabinet ministers openly criticizing his repeating a slur about Keir Starmer, the leader of the Opposition, and one of his closest and longest-serving advisors quitting in protest.

I think that's taken for granted, though -- several senior staffers had just resigned, both back-benchers and cabinet ministers are openly criticizing him, and he seems almost certain to have to face a no-confidence vote in the near future. He'd said earlier in the week what specific changes he has in mind -- creating a new Office of the Prime Minister (something none of his predecessors have needed) and making new appointments -- but many people think that the problem is clearly him, and that nothing will change until someone less chaotic is in his post.I get that. The internet backbone was de-privatized in 1994 allowing it to be made commercially available for non-military/non-academic use, so, um, carry the one and... Yep! that's 10 years come this October! ... Right?.
Meanwhile here's Ms Dorries on the subject of the internet
I was online in 1993, but I worked for Boeing, who was one of the defense contractors around from the start. Speeds were like 28K. I also had an AOL account for home use. I think I was still on AOL up to 2005, at which point I was using a 400 kbps satellite dish at home (rural Alabama, wired internet sucked). Then I moved and got a plain Isp, still on satellite, but 1.5 Mbps. That's when I discovered Second Life. Finally moved somewhere with Comcast cable at 6-12 Mbps, then here in 2014 with ATT, same speed. Then they quadrupled my speed when the threat of Google Fiber was a thing, and a few years ago they ran fiber, so now 300 Mbps. So my speed has increased nearly 1000x in 20 years. The internet backbone was de-privatized in 1994 allowing it to be made commercially available for non-military/non-academic use, so, um, carry the one and...
