There's already kiddy porn on the blockchain.
People already talk about being able to inject data into blockchain transactions. What if someone started injecting it into every transaction and then sent the police after every blockchain bro?

I would love to see how enforceable the Ts&Cs are in court. As a matter of law, a thief can not pass a clear title. Green appears to have done due diligence in reporting the theft. The next buyer may not have. As a matter of law, Green still owns the NFTs and all rights he held before the theft. Under the terms of the NFT the owner is whoever the Blockchain points to, even if they are a thief. That sounds ripe for litigation.

I dunno if that would really work.

Something like a photo, of any size really, is too big of a file to actually fit into a smart contract. So I imagine that whatever kiddy porn that's on the chain is in the form of links, same as the images in NFTs. I don't know if the police would arrest/convict someone over just having the links if they haven't downloaded the actual images - I suspect not? Every arrest I've seen in the news involved people who had images and videos on their computer or phone or whatever. But maybe, who knows.

I suspect it would be like cutting his own throat to suggest that the blockchain might be *wrong*. :)

Several people on Twitter have pointed out that Seth Green COULD alter the character's appearance in the show just enough to make it arguably an original character, and then all of the copyright issues would be solved.

But he's not going to do that.

Because the whole point of making the show was to make his specific NFT more valuable so that he could later sell it for more money than he spent buying it, however much that was. If the NFT is stolen though, he can't sell it, so there's literally no reason to continue.

Now the person or entity HOSTING the material that is linked to by the NFT, they'd better watch out.

It's a pretty good point, especially considering this was supposed to be a TV show in which the character is animated. Because things like facial expressions were chosen as "characteristics" by the algorithm that made all the apes and, as you can see from the above examples, the machine making the apes did in fact create some that were identical in every way except for an expression. So if your ape NFT character that you own the rights to, in your animated show, just....blinks or closes its eyes for whatever reason, POOF it's now a completely different unique NFT character that someone else owns the rights to. If he opens his mouth, POOF it's now a third unique character with its own rights-holder. Blinks and opens its mouth at the same time? Ape-owner Number 4 has just entered the chat.

Meanwhile,

The statement is a little funny because there's no authority, really, that is empowered to "retrieve the NFT" and return it to Green. The thief flipped the stolen ape almost immediately, and it is entirely the prerogative of the person who bought it to give it or sell it back to Green....or not.

So far it looks like not, lol.

"We can prove the promise of ape community"

I just got a call from the ape community. They said, and I quote:

What do you mean no reason to continue. There is the artistic merit of creating a show and putting your ideas out there for others to see and enjoy!

I'm a simpleton. Whenever I do hear blockchain, Vinton Cerf to the rescue!

Web3.0 is based on blockchain. So do I need Web3.0? Well, see above.

Regarding that buzzword scam festival called Web3.0: just looking at the main proponents is reason enough for me to puke, and not to touch it with a 10 foot pole. But hey, their articles about it full of lies and stupid stuff is a great resource for some new bullshit bingo cards.

That was quite a roller coaster of a read. I started off thinking these people are naive simpletons, and one of the selling points of this nonsense is that you get away from that horrible government interference (also called "regulation"). Asking the government to step in and enforce non-existent rules is kind of pointless. Then as I read further I began to feel a little bad for the guy. He was clearly manipulated by some rather callous individuals who took advantage of him. By the end, though, he started going on about how the real problem was that he was not careful, and he does not want to miss the "opportunities" of crypto. At that point, I was convinced he is just a greedy moron, and it is just a matter of time before the rest of his money will be liberated from his clutches. Given his history and background I cannot help but imagine he is a free market conservative who in a short time will be crying at his kitchen table wondering why the government would just let him starve.

Greed is the worst.

Toronto Comic Arts Festival sparks outrage by featuring NFT creator Saba Moeel, Moeel found to have widely traced her artwork
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival angered artists and fans alike when they invited Saba Moeel, the artist behind the Pink Cat NFT collection, to attend as a featured guest. This was in part because of opinions around NFTs more generally, but much of the ire was directed at Moeel specifically when she was found to have traced much of her work from sources including Tank Girl, Tom and Jerry, and various artists on Instagram without providing any credit. Others were concerned with various transphobic or racist statements Moeel has made in the past, as well as the creation of artwork by a non-Black artist that appeared to be caricaturing Black people.
Moeel seems like quite a work of...something.
