What the heck? I really felt for that robot in that little scene. And I laughed. I think it was not the falling that created my conflicted feelings, but the incredible amount of broken pieces that came out of the poor fallen one.

We've all seen children fall or otherwise hurt themselves but they're not sure what happened until they see the faces of those looking on. THEN the crying begins. You feel for them so much, because you know it hurts and how it feels, but the reality of that look to see whether this is an important hurt or not... That look and the complete need to suppress one's reaction to it in order to help the fallen child, that makes the feeling of sympathetic sadness so poignant.
