I have been looking forward to Shang Chi releasing on Disney+ today, but out of curiosity I clicked on The World According to Jeff Goldblum first, and I think I'll put off Shang Chi until I'm done with Goldblum. This is way better than I thought it would be. I'm only one episode in, but it's so much fun to see him do his Jeff Goldblum schtick all over the sneaker head subculture, which I know nothing about. The one part where he starts reciting lines from the Godfather while a large cash transaction is happening off camera is amazing. If the Godfather gets a remake, Jeff Goldblum would make a great Michael Coleone, LOL.

Very much a teaser. Just a lot of dark, moody shots, a flash of Ruffalo sans Hulk, a little bit of the flesh turning green.

FCOL, the whole first 30 seconds with Maslany on a train platform could have been taken from Orphan Black. But at least finally some proof of a show in production is here at last.

Sooyii is the first film to be entirely shot in the Blackfoot language. Or so they say. After watching a lot of early silent film recently, I'm categorically skeptical of any claim to be first anything in film, but this still looks interesting. It's about the smallpox pandemic in the Blackfoot nation, in the 1700s. It seems to be a big hit at indie film festivals so far. They had to add extra screenings at the Montana Film Festival. I can't find any information about where or when it might be streaming.

She Hulk, Jane Foster Thor, Kate Bishop Hawkeye, Lady Loki, Sam Wilson as Captain America, Possibly a Lady Black Panther (though that franchaise seems ot be a mess at the moment with it's actors).

I can't wait for the next Avengers movie when all the "Woke" jackasses come out of the wood work and bitch about how they replaced everyone with women and minorities.

Red Notice was fun but it suffers from that trope of the plan relies on x,x,z to happen at specific times or the plan would never work and despite x,y,z being out of the control of the main characters, they happen at the right time and order with certain elements explained in flashback. Mad think it was influenced by most Lupin III scripts, even has a Interpol detective chasing our thieves around the world. A-

Ghostbusters Afterlife was much more fun but had a couple cringe spots but it also made me cry. Three times. A solid A movie imo.

I remembered that Hawkeye came out around Thanksgiving, and watched it over the weekend. It's better than I thought it would be. It kinda reminds me of Gotham, in a good way, but with way better cinematography. The meandering long shots during action sequences are incredible. I think the only MCU property that moved the camera like this before was Shang Chi. I think Marvel has finally given up on the quick cut style of editing, and that's awesome. Of the new Marvel shows, I think the writing is better than Falcon & Winter Soldier, and better than What If? but not as good at Loki and Wanda Vision. It's not a masterpiece, but it is good Christmas fun, and I think it deserves more buzz than it's gotten so far.

Also, one film I'm looking forward to seeing next year is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which is, of course, starring Nicholas Cage. I mean, who else could lead a film with a title like that? It looks like a re-deux of Amazon's Jean-Claude Van Johnson, but I loved Jean-Claude Van Johnson, so I'm looking forward to it.

I just cancelled Disney+ and went with HBO Max. I've already seen what I want to see from Disney, which is the MCU, and a couple hidden gems like The World According To Jeff Goldblum. HBO Max seems to have a lot more content I'm interested in, especially with the new Matrix coming out next week, streaming on the same day as it's theatrical release.

One of HBO's partnerships is with TCM, so they have a bunch of great pre-code stuff I want to see. Problem is, they rate them like regular films. You know, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, and NR. I am no purist when it comes to films. I'll watch colorized and remastered classics all day long. This particular change strikes me as deeply unfair, and misleading, though.

Take King Kong, for example. King Kong was one of the films that inspired the code, when it shocked people by having the ape undress a woman. HBO rates it as PG. If they rated it when it came out, they would have rated it much more harshly. We expect this kind of thing, though. An R rated film from 30 years ago isn't the same as an R rated film in 2021. Film makers change their films all the time, to get the ratings they want. Judging films by rubrics that did not exist when they were released gives the film makers no chance to do that, and it holds them up to modern standards that did not exist at the time.

For the sake of clarity and fairness, I think they should have a rating designation that denotes pre-code. King Kong should be rated PC, for pre-code.

One movie website just uses "NR" for "no rating" That covers both old films from before the rating bureau, and low-budget films that simply haven't gone to the trouble to get one.
