I hate the Netflix rating system. I don't know how to rate Connected.

I mean, I love the old BBC show Connections, by James Burke. I think it's the greatest documentary series ever made. So I checked out Netflix's new Connected, thinking it would be similar. It's not, at all. Netflix's Connected is like if you gave a pothead a video camera and a travel budget and told him to remake BBC's Connections, and instead of telling you about inventions, he talks about the natural world, and then instead of telling you about unintuitive connections, he talks about the most obvious, mundane connections you can imagine, but then gets all wide eyed and goes, "isn't that crazy, man?!?!"

So it's a natural sciences documentary for morons. I hate it.

Do I give it a thumbs down? If I do, then Netflix will think I don't like documentaries and reccommend less documentaries, which would be bad. If I give it a thumbs up, then I'm giving it a rating it doesn't deserve, and rewarding people for making bad TV. In the end, I just didn't rate it, and I won't watch a second episode. That seems like a good middle ground.

What?

Netflix is teaming up with the production company behind Diana: A New Musical for a Broadway first: it’s bringing the musical to subscribers at home before the stage production opens to the public.

The move comes after Broadway was shut down in late March because of the pandemic. It hasn’t reopened. Although a handful of shows played onstage in previews, Diana wasn’t able to officially open on Broadway before the shutdown. Instead of waiting to get the show on stages next year (or whenever Broadway resumes), producers Grove Entertainment, Frank Marshall, and The Araca Group decided to team up with Netflix to get the show out, according to Deadline. The show, which is about the late Princess Diana and stars Jeanna de Waal in the titular role, will be filmed in an empty theater for Netflix. The musical will hit Netflix in early 2021 before opening on Broadway on May 25th, 2021.

Uh. Oh.

“Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good,” DiMartino said in a statement. “But what I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.”

AMC Theatres will reopen its U.S. screens on Aug. 20 with 15-cent movie ticket pricing, recalling the cost of attending the chain's first Kansas City location in 1920.

The largest domestic circuit, shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic, expects to open around 100 American theaters, or a sixth of its circuit in one week. To mark the relaunch, seats sold for movies screenings on Aug. 20 will be available for the 1920 admission price of 15 cents.
Hmm. Is taking the risk of catching COVID-19 from a bunch of popcorn goobers in the 5th row worth 15 cents a movie? Hmm...

I'm afraid my mood has pretty much descended to "Good. Fuck it. The sooner all the idiots finish killing each other off, the better." OPEN ALL THE THINGS! LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULEZ, you morons. :shakefist:

Offical CBS All Access just posted this yesterday. Not sure if that's a sign of just how well the show is doing.

my opinion
It is like they took inspiration from Rick & Morty, Pauly Shore movies and wikipedia entries about Star Trek, ran them through the tumblr filter to remove any humour, redeeming qualities and multi dimensionial characters.

Best things about the show: I didn't have to pay for it, it was a short 26 minutes in runtime
Worst things : It was a long 26 minutes, incredibly predictable

Some of those eagerly awaiting a planned live-action version of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" on Netflix are now calling for a boycott.

That's because the original creators are no longer working on that adaptation.
I think I may be done with stuff like this, and the fans in particular. We have the original animated series. We have books. We have comic books. Yes, I'm purposefully leaving the film out of this list. What are we missing if we don't get a live action reproduction of the original series?

I'm seemingly bored by everything entertainment right now. Thank Anath and Astarte that The Legend of Korra is on Netflix. Comfort viewing.

I've been re-watching old series, and filling in missed seasons from past years. Despite not much new content being released, I'm still *way* behind on my "things to watch" list.

We already knew that Sarah Cooper, the comedian that has gone viral for her impersonations of Trump, is getting a comedy special on Netflix. And today, Cooper has inked a deal with CBS to adapt one of her books into a TV series, according to Deadline and Variety.

CBS plans to develop a comedy show inspired by Cooper’s book How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings. The show will focus on three females working at a predominantly male company. As you might have guessed from the name of the book, the show will tackle today’s gender politics and their impact on the trio’s professional and personal lives. Cooper will also be involved in the series serving as a co-writer and executive producer.
