George and Fiona Cottrell understood to have been interviewed under caution by Met police

Nigel Farage’s aide George Cottrell and his mother, Fiona Cottrell, have been interviewed under criminal caution by Scotland Yard detectives, the Guardian understands.

The interviews are understood to form part of an ongoing investigation into donations to Reform UK before the general election in July 2024.


Both Cottrell, known as “posh George”, and his mother were invited for interview by detectives from the Metropolitan police’s special inquiry team. They attended voluntarily, the Guardian understands.

I'm not sure what to make of "neither" in this context. Given the other candidates we know about, unless perhaps they want to see the guy who dresses up in a fox costume win (I think he ran in the recent Makerfield byelection, too, and won 18 votes), I hope it means they wish the other main parties were standing so the Labour/Lib Dem/Greens/Conservative could win, since the "others" include both the dreadful Laurence Fox and Piers Corbyn, the former Labour leader's bonkers brother.

“Historically, physical performance research has been based on male data,” says Dr Julie Greeves, the army’s principal physiologist and one of the authors of the new guide. “Now women in the military can feel that they’ve been properly taken care of, based on evidence.”

Based on a decade-long £20m study – which harvested data from 22,000 serving women – the guidance could have global implications, with researchers sharing findings with Nato allies about how to get the best out of female personnel through tailored training, nutrition, hormone tracking and kit. “The influence that we’re having with our Nato counterparts is honestly mind blowing,” says Greeves.

It could also unlock potential in female recruits, she argues. “There’s this whole evolutionary element [of female physiology] that I think we are really beginning to tap into,” says Greeves. “We call it the oestrogen advantage in defence.”

Apparently the public wants to “hear more from Larry”.

Which is odd, because no one seemed interested before, even though I’ve spent the last 15 years keeping Downing Street free of all the rats and rodents – which trust me, has been near impossible with six Prime Ministers coming one after the other.
