B: Germany has a Navy? o_O
Sure, since Germany has access to the North and Baltic sea there is one. It's not a big navy, but with some pretty advanced ships and submarines. The current line of submarines is running mostly using H2 fuel cells and not dependent on external air, just like nuclear submarines.

The thing is after WWI, were Germany had a big navy but was unable to use it because the British empire was blocking sea access, a thing the German emperor never had on his mind, and WWII the navy was reduced to a size to operate in these both seas. German has no big former colonial empire nor oversea territories, the army is restricted to defending the country by constitution, so no need for big projection of power. The navy is meant to protect against the Warsaw pact, now Russia.

One of the customers for submarines aside Italy is Israel. Many people think that Israel refitted some of these submarines as nuclear weapons launch platform.

Also some older versions of the submarine, still diesel powered, sunk in joint NATO exercises US aircraft carriers in the early 2000s.

His time will come! I think he's still on holiday somewhere, but he has to return for a civil hearing in late September which could lead to his imprisonment for contempt of court, and has been warned he certainly faces prison if he doesn't attend, so maybe he'll get nailed for both.

You cannot be a British patriot and support the re-election of Donald Trump. I am sorry if this bald statement sounds too absolute but there are no grey areas when it comes to the future of our security.

Trump represents a clear and present danger to the United Kingdom and Europe. If British (or French or German) conservatives support him, all the insults thrown by the right at the left from the French Revolution via the decades of communism to the post 9/11 struggles with radical Islam will be thrown back at them. They are traitors, fifth columnists, enemies of the people.

Liz Truss considered cutting cancer care to pay for tax cuts

After her 'mini budget' turned out to be a 'how to tank the economy' budget Truss started looking for ways to pay for her tax cuts for the rich by stripping away essential services for everyone else.

At that point, they were joined by fellow special adviser Alex Boyd, who was told that Truss and Kwarteng were thinking they could still sort out the black hole with severe cuts.

“We’ve been told that they’re looking at stopping cancer treatment on the NHS,’ they told him.

“Is she being serious?’ Boyd asked. “She’s lost the plot,” they replied. “She’s shouting at everyone – at us and officials that we’ve ‘got to find the money!’ When we tell her it can’t be done, she shouts back, ‘It’s not true. The money is there. You go and find it.’”
A spokesperson for Truss declined to comment. Kwasi Kwarteng, who was chancellor at the time, said: “I wasn’t involved in any conversations about restricting healthcare, but that doesn’t mean the prime minister and her team didn’t discuss this.”

Curiously, her role in Rishi Sunak's cabinet was "minister for common sense", a post Keir Starmer has not found it necessary to fill.

In the November 2023 British cabinet reshuffle, McVey was appointed Minister of State without Portfolio in the Cabinet Office by Rishi Sunak, reportedly tasked with "leading the government's anti-woke agenda" as a "minister for common sense".

The Minister for Common Sense? Was Sunak secretly advocating for Britain to gain independence from...Britain?
Her most notable achievement, I think, was her campaign to free us from the scourge of gay lanyards in the civil service, which in typical pusillanimous, woke, politically correct fashion, Labour have failed to renew.

Lucy Connolly spoke only to enter her plea and confirm she could hear the judge during the hearing at Northampton crown court, which lasted seven minutes. Adjourning the case for sentencing at Birmingham crown court on 17 October, the judge, Adrienne Lucking KC, told Connolly that the ordering of pre-sentence reports was no indication of the probable sentence.

The judge said the case was being transferred to Birmingham to avoid any potential appearance of bias given Connolly’s husband’s political post. Lucking told her: “Sentencing will entirely be a matter for the judge on the next occasion but it’s likely to be a substantial custodial sentence. In the meantime, you are remanded in custody.”

The report on the Grenfell tower disaster dropped yesterday. It's findings are shocking, depressing and of course exactly what you expect:

The manufacturers of the insulation panels lied, hid information, recommended products they knew to be unsuitable and basically always put a profit ahead of having a safe product used in a safe way. They also all issued statements that basically said "nuh-uh"

The companies responsible for approving the fire safety were far more interested in keeping good relations with clients than actually giving an honest assessment

The landlords only cared about what was cheapest and avoided life saving expenses, even simple things like automatic door closers (you know, those hinges that force doors to shut themselves and, for example, stop lethal gasses moving through the building)

The government was engaged in what they called a "bonfire of red tape" tearing up regulations for idealogical reasons and ignoring warnings about the dangers to life involved in unfettered libertarian style capitalism. The then-minister involved denied that had any impact but every other person in his department disagreed.

Various employees of all the organisations were either overworked, inexperienced, incapable of their job or just terrified of telling those above them about problems

The tenant management organisation didn't give a flying stuff about the tenants or safety and considered those tenants raising issues around fire safety as "militants"

The council not only failed to consider the safety of the residents before the fire or during the refurbishment they also completely failed the survivors in the immediate aftermath leaving them abandoned and homeless.

The fire testing organisation was unprofessional with poor practices and a lack of scientific rigour

and on and on and on. Everyone who could fail did, everyone who could have done something to prevent it failed to and it all seems to be motivated by greed and a complete lack of humanity.

ETA: And there are estimated to be around 11,000 other buildings around the uk that are basically clad in firelighters.
