More SL fashion puzzlements

Platform-soled shoes that would break your ankle if you stumbled in then IRL (actually saw something like this happen once). They don't even look good, or even sexy.
Who decided that goth stuff had to have crosses on it? I managed to be a goth without encountering a cross once, except this worn by the nuns who glared at my friend and I, lol. Crosses are also to be found on a number of earrings for no particular reason. It seems particularly odd on earrings for elf ears. In everything I've seen or read with elves in it, if they even have a religion, it isn't a traditional human one.
Crop tops that are cropped so far up they're a wardrobe malfunction.
I can see where people could want clothes that can switch between boobs out or in for pixel sexy RP, but walking around like that all the time? Is this some more "Brazilian" (perceived to be, anyway) stuff?
Gauged ears. I don't understand them in RL, either.

One of the advantages of SL is that wardrobe malfunctions don't expose more than they are designed to.
I hate a lot of RL fashions... especially regarding trousers.
Sun crosses could make sense for some elves.

I don't understand that either. There are a lot of bad asses who wear them, they really give off that "cultured, but can get his sleeve dirty" vibe for me.

I'm fairly certain that when goth changed from musty vampire/victorian type to white face pierced freak type is when the crosses were added as a requirement. This was done at the request of mimes and juggalos who started to get a bad rep thanks to the new goths.

I don't like ears at all. Especially human ones. All wrinkly, floppy, and goopy. Probably the most gross body part to me. Whoever thought of impaling them with dangly metals and shiny rocks was quite insane to me. Sounds like circumcision for the head. To each their own. (^_^)y

Forgot that was the name of that persona. Being that was a parody of glam rock at the time, Kiss probably should be credited. Or blamed, lol.
But that's RL circa the mid 70s. Doesn't explain why it's on the rise in SL now.
Crosses were not so omnipresent in my RL goth days as in SL fashion now. Spikes? sure. chains? absolutely. studded jackets and collars? almost de rigeur. But crosses? Not so much.
The thing about any of these, including the boobage, is that, people want to go for them, whatever. At least you can't fall and break your ankle (or nose, as I saw happen once in RL) in SL unless you want to (?).
What bugs me is when that's all I see on offer.

If I'm on marketplace, I change the 'sort by' from 'Relevance' to 'Age: Newest First'. Doing that, I found it more difficult to find any quality skimp. Inworld, I get what I look for in the stores I expect.

Just did a "women's apparel - newest first" right now and found a ton of boring modest junk. Jumpsuits, "cozy" jeans, and nurse scrubs. (>.>)

If you're sticking with relevance or popularity, you're finding what everyone else is buying. Not what all is up for sale. And, lots of people are in SL for teh naugties. =^-^=

Edit: About crosses: They were more apparent to me pre-SL. Even just as recently, the Tony Iommi signature SG is a black-on-black-on-black themed guitar with the entire fretboard covered in crosses. I'd argue SL goth lacks genuine gothic themes. Especially non-stereotypical pastel goth. One of my doll alts is very difficult to keep current because of this. (T_T)
