It looks like it's going to hit Panama City head-on as a Cat 4, and will still be a category 1 hurricane as it makes its way through Georgia, eventually passing through the eastern Carolinas as a possible tropical storm - the last thing they need as they're still recovering from Florence. About the only good news about Michael is that it won't stay anywhere for very long. Stay safe out there, all those in Michael's path.

I just watched this storm on cnn international take a reinforced metal and concrete barrier right out of the ground. I'm reminded of Katrina tossing around dishwashers from restaurants. I hope everyone in its path stats as safe as they can.

some places are reporting it as a cat 5 just before it landed.. we watched during lunch, the camera crew rushed inside as the hotels awning was ripped apart and fell on the cars live!

Wow. We got more or less missed, though for a little bit it looked like it might hook west. But we've friends in Panama City who decided to ride it out. Stay safe anyone in its path... *hugs*

I've seen some videos of conditions in the hurricane. It's pretty bad, even as hurricanes go.

Here's a video that is not too fun to watch. This is a recording of a livestream of two men who were driving around in the storm.

The seven minutes between 31:00 and 38:00 tell the story. After that point the men have abandoned the vehicle, it sounds like in hope of taking shelter in a nearby building, but I don't know. The livestream continues for a while though from the empty van, which eventually begins floating in the encroaching storm surge as waves break over the windshield in the last few minutes of the video.

That's an unfortunate city name and almost guaranteed to ensure that you-know-who may not exactly ride to the rescue.
Exactly my thought.

The Orange Shitstain: "Oh, some beach in Mexico got destroyed? Screw 'em. Serves 'em right for coming into the US."

I was really worried about Fort Walton Beach. I was there in 1996 or so. Hurricane Andrew evidence was was still visible in Destin. Fort Walton Beach is comprised of average, middle class folks who live in the main town and the ultra rich who have their vacation homes and build on the beach, even after hurricanes, which destroy their buildings. And, why not? The govt pays them to do so.

Anyhow, I never even knew, despite being in the area of a place called Mexico Beach, FL.

That devastation is terrible. I may have seemed nonchalant in stating that shitstain would likely not be likely to help because of the name (yes, he is that petty), but my heart goes out to everyone there and hope that they are done right by FEMA.

Atlanta reporting in. We got 2 inches of rain, and a bunch of branches up to 3 inches thick were downed. The center of the storm passed about 100 miles SE of here, so we just got the outer rain bands. Have not heard of any local power outages.

[EDIT]Local TV news is reporting metro Atlanta has several thousand people without power, due to downed trees and power lines

Ok, I've seen some videos of people doing stupid things, but that one ranks right up there with the stupidest!
