Did my tradition of drinking rich chocolatey Ovaltine while watching “A Christmas Story“, what a great film. I do have a decoder pin and an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 650 shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. My dad grew up in those times and talked about what it was like. Christmas brings up memories both good and bad, that's how it is. Merry Christmas to all, rest well and enjoy your Christmas morning. I recommend Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls and Simply Apple cold pressed apple juice in the morning. And as many Russel Stover chocolate covered marshmallow ornaments you can get. They used to be santas, which were better., but the ornaments are okay..better than the Trees they had for a few years. The trees sucked enough that I complained about them to the company.

My nephews were even louder than normal last night. ....then I have to go do it all again tonight... we usually have big dinners on both Christmas eve and day. I was thinking about how that is such a first world problem: having to spend time with my LOUD, but nice and loving family. They mean well, but do give me a headache!

Hint: There are ear plugs that resemble in-ear hearing aids.

Just sayin'....

Part of the misery of having a birthday on Christmas is having to share it with so many people's favorite religion. My parents and grandparents all tried to make it better but nothing worked until I got older and left religion.

All of which has nothing to do with why I'm posting this: "What made my husband think I wanted a small drone for my birthday?" :confusedcat:

Answer: He's already in the yard testing it!

Maybe next year he can try one night earlier and see if he can target a certain sleigh with eight tiny reindeer.

I'd settle for just one deer!

After visiting my brother and his family for Thanksgiving I essentially told them, "I came, I saw, now just let me stay home alone for Christmas."

It's been one of the better ones I've experienced in a while. Sent out and received a couple cards, but not fretting over gifts has made it so much more enjoyable. Bought a few things for myself, brother insisted on sending me something which is now out there in delivery-void somewhere. But after several years of major suck I've enjoyed sampling Holiday-Cheer on my own terms.

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

I made all the traditional stuff for dinner this year on Christmas day. I was expecting 7, my husband's brother and wife, my neighbors and their daughter, her husband and myself.

Then my neighbor called and asked to add one more person, which was absolutely no problem. LOL - except 11 additional people walked in with her 5 minutes later. So, I'm like ok, no problem, I stripped the "set" table and made it a buffet, added more plates and I certainly had enough food. I made a whole smoked salmon, an 18 lb turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes (enough for an army), roasted root veggies, sautéed green beans with almonds, rolls, home made cranberry sauce, gravy and a wild rice salad. I was going to make a goose, which is more traditional for me and my sister-in-law (also a former Canadian) but the price of a small 8 lb goose at Publix supermarket was $128.00. 😧

I had also put out lots of snacks for everyone. It was wild and turned into a big, fun party and a lot of the people there had never tasted traditional American/Canadian holiday food. My neighbors daughter jumped into the kitchen afterward and started washing dishes, it reminded me of when I was little and we used to have these huge French family holidays. Everyone moving, talking and laughing. I still missed my husband a lot but I think if he's ghosting the house, and saw, he would have enjoyed the moment.

Also, I conned my neighbor into teaching me how to make tamales next year ...

Merry Hollidays!

Hope it was fun and/or peaceful and/or exactly how yous likes it. 🌲

We were a smaller group this years, many working (Cuba) or visiting boyfriend (Alberta), etc. We had duck confit on the eve, and Coquille Saint-Jacques and salmon the next day, sprinkled with cheese morning noon and night. Mucho desserts, of course, so lots of belt loosening… We exchanged one recycled gift found from whatever we could find at home. I got a beautiful alpaca scarf, and antique iron door stopper, and a really cool little pop up book of a tour of Versailles.

We spent part of the day snowshoeing through a forest (lots of snow, just in time for Christmas) where there was a huge +/- abandoned maple syrup, idk, farm for lack of a better word. The pipes wound around through the trees. Neat! Also, lots of deer tracks, but wrong time of day, and we didn’t see any. And games… which isn't always a favourite for me. Family is just too chaotic, no one follows the rules, but I make an effort.

‘Twas all very nice, but glad it was only for a couple of days. There’s no place like home 👠👠 in your own bed and your own habits and snuggling your own cat🤓

I’m making stew, and prepped a loaf of bread (my first time!) and am enjoying myself wearing elastic waisted loungewear with nothing but tv and supper till I fall asleep.

One of the gifts I offered was a drone for my brother, ha ha. Was a cheap one I happened to have, and once he opened it, we could hardly get his attention. He had to read all the instructions, and look up the app, etc etc etc. We were like, well, we’ve lost Vincent. Anyhoo, he loved it.
