The man named in the Supreme Court’s gay rights ruling says he didn’t request a wedding website

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado web designer who the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday could refuse to make wedding websites for gay couples cited a request from a man who says he never asked to work with her.

The request in dispute, from a person identified as “Stewart,” wasn’t the basis for the federal lawsuit filed preemptively seven years ago by web designer Lorie Smith, before she started making wedding websites. But as the case advanced, it was referenced by her attorneys when lawyers for the state of Colorado pressed Smith on whether she had sufficient grounds to sue.

The revelation distracts from Smith’s victory at a time when she might have been basking in her win, which is widely considered a setback for gay rights.

The sequel will probably be better.

This is essentially also the case apparently for the Affirmative Action ruling. Some business (loans I guess) that was represented as the one bringing the lwsuit, has said that the loan forgiveness would not be a problem and they did not support the lawsuit.

Like, who the fuck do we sue when the Supreme Court is rulling huge issues based on actual lies?

The pendulum always swings back, so both sides would be well advised to play nice.

Both of Friday's cases had standing issues that the justices glossed over. MOHELA did not support Missouri's use of them in the student loan suit.

I don't know I just heard on TikTok that two conservative justices are considering retiring.
Unless the justices in question have themselves chosen to announce their impending retirement on Tik Tok, which I rather doubt, I don't think I'd hold my breath waiting.

I would be surprised if anyone retires before the 2024 election barring unforeseen health issues. If Thomas had an incapacitating stroke I don't think the Senate would have the votes to remove him.

They would, however, like a Weekend at Bernie's.
