Why so? His father died of a heart attack at the age of 69, l understand, and long flights, such as Sen Graham's recent return from Ukraine, are known to increase the risk of heart attacks.
Sorry, I had my tinfoil hat on a little tight. To, me it was the timing. Turtle McTurtleface, who seemed to be becoming a bit anti-MAGA as of late, disappears off the face of the earth without a word from the government or the media, then Graham has a meeting with Zelenskyy and suddenly drops dead right after. I mean, 71 isn't that terribly old; meanwhile, octogenarian Trump and 73-year-old Putin seem to keep going, and going, and going...

I dunno. It just seems something is a little "off" to me about all this.

There are enough people around right now demanding a forensic autopsy of his corpse. And they are absolutely right about this: it cannot be ruled out that Russia killed him. It can also be old age.

But only an autopsy will give certainty.

Is that not standard in the US unless the deceased was being treated for a serious illness and the attending physician is prepared to certify the cause of death? My father had a post-mortem when he collapsed and died at home from a stroke (partly, as I recall, because he'd hit his head when he fell, so they had to rule out an attack) and so did my late partner, who died suddenly from natural causes at home.

An article from 2019 on the death of journalist Sergey Dorenko, who became a critic of Putin and was first thought to have been poisoned.

The journalist’s initial autopsy named an aortic rupture as the cause of death.

Was there an open window involved he fell out off?

Lindsey Graham is being memorialised as a supporter of Ukraine. His actual record, according to this analysis, is somewhat different

I'm willing to bet he saw himself as a "principled conservative" who followed his conscience and did what he had to do. ...but in reality he was completely spinless and it was very easy to get him to bend under a bit of pressure. There are so many examples of this... He proudly stood with McCain as a never Trumper until McCain died.. ...then he saw which way the wind blew.

I kind of see him as a useless corrupt coward who occasionally tried to do something good like a broken clock being right twice a day.

This is powerful and worth a watch:

GREAT video.. I've had a big paradigm shift over the last 10 or so years on civility. I used to really believe that it was advantageous to do things in a civil way and that people who behave like animals would dig their own graves. It was a very naive "goodness will win in the end!" outlook. ....then I saw OVERT evil start to win over and over... Kind of shattered my confidence. It was easier to dismiss Bush's terror as a temporary blip.

Another thought that comes to mind that video reminded me of was when Scalia died. Many even on the left back then thought it was important to respect him as a human being. ...but even then I had the thought that it was insane to suggest the millions of people he hurt needed to shut up for his relatively small family.

Some GOP have mixed legacies... Lady G will be remembered as the poster child for the closeted, self hating, hypocrite stereotype.

I'm not sure what to make of this sort of thing. It doesn't make me think any the worse of Lindsay Graham than I did when he was alive, since I already assumed (as must have many people) that he was a closeted, self-hating, hypocrite.

Similarly, I think people who liked and supported the late senator will find it very easy to dismiss posthumous allegations about him. Had they been made earlier it might have been a different matter, but since there's now no chance the allegations about sex workers will ever be tested in court, they don't mean a great deal.

I just don't see the point. I've seen plenty of rightly hostile comment about Graham both before and after his death, and I don't see what the video adds to it.

I agree the video doesn't release a ton of NEW information. I just think it's a nice summary of what his real record actually is. I especially appreciated the points they made about how.... disingenuous and performative a lot of "standard" well wishes are after his passing.

The sequel will probably be better.

It adds the context of how his closeted behavior impacted and harmed LGBT people. The statement made by the sex worker was incredibly powerful. Graham did actual harm to the very community he was a part of when it suited his whims and proclivities. That is the point. Now that the NDAs are not in force, a clearer picture of the harm he did is provided. Their voices are important.

There is an effort to sanitize his record. He was a fucking monster for many reasons, but actively working to harm the very people he was having sex with is a special level of it. That is the point.
