SL in particular seems to attract a certain brand of crazy. I know someone who runs one of the largest clubs in SL, and she regularly has to have people banned for various reasons. We traded horror stories, and for her, someone sent her a Google street view picture of her house. I know those feels - I had a picture of my bedroom window posted. People are insane, and I think now covid has made it even worse.

He was almost-local, which was part of the justification he offered for stalking. Since then I've been much more discrete about posting photos from my city and neighborhood. I wasn't always this brainy.

My theory is that I may have dropped a geographical reference at some point. I was so fucking naive.

It is actually very easy if you know how. One way is to get their IP address then do a geolocaiton look upon it. That will give you a general area where you are, sometimes even better. If you did a geo look up on my old IP address it would have put you in my front yard. My current home ipaddress will get you to the gas station down the road. If they know any part of your name, and if they are determined enough, its just a matter of time to find you.

This is why I always use a vpn. Not because I'm doing anything illegal, but to keep myself physically safe from the random internet whack job. If someone did get my ipadddress, easier than you think, they would be searching for me in Chicago.

Wow. That doesn't seem to work here. I get ads from different companies that point me to various versions of south jersey and a suburb of philly within 20 miles but that only narrows it down to a few million people. I make that much info available publically.
