The 'status quo' in this case is something like 3 people buried up to their eyeballs in bug reports, support demands and people tossing drama their way. The team isn't what it used to be, I'm told.
It's changed a lot since the Emerald viewer days, that's for sure. I do feel bad for whoever is currently working on it, though.

Bad-mouthing Firestorm makes one a folk hero in my book, because view it as a challenge to status quo. But I must admit that devs bad-mouthing each other has a bad vibe to it.
Why would badmouthing firestorm be good at all? they give their software way for free!!!! They are hardly microsoft... I'm very hesitant to attack people who give stuff away for free just because they are popular.

Drama, bragging, and flexing is how open source devs get paid.

You're right. It's not and I'm being petty. I tend to view Firestorm as the TVP with the biggest voice and say in things and get upset when I don't feel included in their future plans. Then somebody like Niran comes along and criticizes how avatar complexity is measured, or Henri makes a giant effort to include low-end users in his newest release of Cool VL, and I feel like there are voices that stick up for me, and I gravitate toward them and want to defend and support them. It is in a way an entirely polarized way of thinking on my part. 'Have I somehow managed to radicalize myself against Firestorm?' is probably a fair question.

This is true. And I do like free.

I have a lot of beef with microsoft's forced updates, lol. I even tried to become Linux . . .

Makes sense. Nobody should be beyond criticism, but I certainly will take it easy on them for being free. ...if they became pay only then it would certainly be open season, haha.

Nope. Not ever going back because 5+ years was more than enough to burn me out completely.

AW refugee here.
Aww. I explored it very briefly a few weeks ago. It was almost completely empty of ppl. But oddly had a welcoming feel, like the way the environment was. Such a weird vibe to all of it. Can you elaborate how it was when it was more populated, or what happened, or anything? Or mabey their are threads here that concern the topic that I just have failed to notice. Either way, Active Worlds is super interesting.

I need to go and check out Active Worlds again, if only out of curiosity.

Far as I am concerned, both of the named devs of other TPVs thus far need a serious attitude adjustment in general.

It was 20 years or so ago, don't expect me to remember much. lol

There's plenty of history to be found online if you look. No threads here although there were a few on the old SLU.

This should get you started: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Worlds

Khamon belongs to an Active World called Harps (Harp Information Center) that has pavilions displaying various related information such as links to events, history, manufacturers, music, et cetera. The owner has also included some camping and meeting space that is rarely, but sometimes, used by participants. It's never very populated though I do see patrons once in a while. It has open enrollment if you want to take a gander at something that an aficionado has laboured on for many years.
