I just really can't overstate how hopeful this makes me. Hungary just through off a solidly, proudly fascist government that's been locked in place for so many years, and it had done all the usual tricks too like gerrymandering and disenfranchising people, essentially bribing poor people for votes, just all kinds of weasely garbage, but people turned out in such high numbers to vote that it overwhelmed all of their measures. And not just for Peter Magyar but they also voted in a legislative supermajority for Magyar's party, so he won't just be a lame duck but can actually go about reversing everything the previous government had done.
And I don't know if Peter Magyar is exactly a superfan of Ukraine - I don't think anyone in Hungary really is, for certain historical reasons - but he IS solidly anti-Putin and everyone I've read who I presume knows enough to say, is saying that we can expect him to not obstruct EU aid for Ukraine against Russia the way Orban's government has.
I think I read somewhere that Magyar already announced that one of his first acts will be to reach out to the Polish government and restrengthen ties between those two countries that Orban had damaged.
