Grandma Raises Her Prices This Year

A grandmother who charged her family for Christmas dinner last year has raised her prices for 2023.

Caroline Duddridge, 63, previously made her adult relatives pay up to £15, while her youngest grandchildren got a £2.50 bill each.
But this December it has gone up to cover the increased cost of living and rising food prices.
Caroline, from Fairwater in Cardiff, described a general food shop in the current climate as "just horrifying".
She first got the idea to make guests fork out for her turkey dinner when her husband died in 2015.

She even tells her loved ones to transfer the money straight into her bank account, because it is easier to "keep track of any stragglers".

Good for her. I don’t know the financial circumstances of the family members, but if they never offered to host or contribute with food or $ in the past, it’s a good way to give a hint. In any case, she knows her family so I’m sure it’s fine with them.

We usually do potluck, and do a secret gift for one person plus games with recycled gifts, so not too cost or stressful. Although I’m hosting this year(!)

Previously that included a mini buffet of sandwiches before a slap-up turkey dinner with all the trimmings on 25 December, along with a nut roast and a choice of four desserts.

That would be followed by a full buffet on 26 December.

Shes doing that all by herself and only asking for 20 bucks? i'd give her double! it takes allot of effort to host a gathering/plan and cook for allot of people.

Whatever works for them! every family is different.

we normally do potluck and every family brings something... Host may reqest certain things and we will grab it last minute like extra ice, if they expecting more people then she had planned, But they will shoo you out of the kitchen until they are ready.

She has been well and taking a bit of a break from SL. The cost of flour (and hence sourdough) has been going up, though, so I have had to increase the fees for baked goods. Hope you and everybody have been well. I have also been cheering on PM Carney as he has been one of the very few people capable of standing firm against weak kneed bullies.

I saw a post on reddit sharing very sad news about Cristiano Midnight and came here to check in.

Similar here. My grandmother always brought this amazing wax bean casserole, and I had an aunt who made fantastic potato salad.
