I knew there was a scam starting to blossom over the weekend, when a group chat user provided a link to a "lite" version of Firestorm.

I mean, come on. A lite version of Firestorm... :hellokitty:

And here is recent thread where ppl appear to have fallen victim to the scam, although it could be unrelated, or be a different scam, or contain victims of different scams. I won't lie, my first thought was to blame Firestorm. Firestormers of course did not take this well. A lot of reasoning as to what happened after the scammers gained access to accounts was shared. But nobody admitted to downloading Firestorm 8 . . . or anything else for that matter. Definitely has me wondering now.

Please note: It's probably not Firestorms fault. Don't shoot me. Or, if you absolutely have to, just shoot me a little bit.

It's a near certainty that they downloaded fake firestorm or something like that but is ashamed to admit it. Just breaking into accounts via brute force is isn't really practical, so you usually had to have downloaded something to be hacked.

Hackers of course will say and do anything to get you to click their download link. I'm very distrustful of any links I see since it happened to me some time ago. I got a malicious "game" from a friend, not knowing the friend was hacked (discord, not SL). ...and it was a friend I'd want to appease rather than some random group spammer, so it hit a vulnerable spot. Scammers aren't going away anytime soon, and some scams are very lazy/obvious while some get a bit clever.
