So now this is some shit, that, well, I'm seriously pissed over, I can not leave the company because of certain reasons and a few nda's hanging on my ass currently... so I move, I must maintain the job... yeah well, now, our login portal we use for everything, now requires we login with our facebook accounts... our free standing accounts and our employee numbers are going away at the beginning of the year, I DO not have social media, I carry a few for luskwood related, but that's Sl related and not connected to RL. this is upsetting and I have no option to opt out

That sounds crazy. I mean... I'm not saying you should report anybody to facebook, officially, but you know, it would be a terrible disaster for this new system if somebody reported every employee in this system as a fake account, or reported them for hate speech (IME, "girls are gross" counts as hate speech).

I mean, there's almost no way to challenge that kind of thing with Faceboook, so everybody would have to make new accounts. That would be ban circumvention, though, which is another bannable offense, if somebody reported them for it.

It would be a shame if some busy body with an ichy report button finger forced the company to use another log in system like that. It's a good thing we don't know anybody who would do such a terrible thing.

All I know is they have worked with facebook on this for over a year setting this up, anybody smacking the report button in tests with the test accounts, reports back directly to our own team, facebook does not seem to get the reports and we are limited to 4 options on the report functionality. I guess I need to clear the nda's and get an exit interview setup, but it's going to take a while, I'll be moved before I can get out.

Why not make a facebook account just for work? I've made a few accounts. It doesn't tie the account to anything real such as a phone number like twitter does, at least not when I made them. Maybe a working email address but it's easy to make one of them. You can delete that facebook account when you leave the job.

I dont want family finding the account as work has told us these have to be publically visible to all, no privacy options as they want any one in the company at any time to add us by even searching for us. that means, any one... I guess I'll be figuring something out.

I can only suggest adding to the bio that the account is purely for work. I know it's not much help if family can't understand that.

I personally can't make sense of a business requiring people to use Facebook accounts for a company portal. It's lazy, there are possible security issues, and it looks kinda sinister.

I wonder what they would do if you deliberately tried to get banned from facebook. You don't have to break any rules or troll or anything. Just find a conservative group and post that you support equality and GLBTQ+ rights. Conservatives love hitting the report button. I could probably get myself banned from Facebook quick by directly quoting selections from my company's diversity and anti-harassment policies, without directly citing the source of the text. What's my boss gonna do? Report me to HR for advocating for diversity and against harassment? I wouldn't even have to do that in a conservative group. I could just friend my most conservative relatives and post things like that to my wall. They are so crazy, they would just report me on their own until I get banned, no need to coordinate with anybody. That might make for an awkward Thanksgiving, but that's kind of how my family gatherings always are, anyway.

I'm laughing at the idea of being (deliberately!) banned from Facebook, and what's a company to do about that?

Though I can relate on family gatherings to a degree it's funny...

Disclosing social media usernames and/or passwords may be against your state's laws.

Employers may not ask or require employees or applicants to disclose their user names or passwords to a personal online account;

Here in Oregon, they can't.

Oregon
Or. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 659A.330

Employers may not ask or require employees or applicants to establish or maintain a personal social media account or to disclose user names
and passwords to personal social media accounts. Employers may not require employees or applicants to allow the employer to advertise on their personal social media accounts; to access social media in the presence of the employer; or to add the employer or an employment agency to their contacts. Social media means an online medium for users to create and share user-generated content, such as videos, photos, blogs, podcasts, instant messages, email or website profiles or locations.

Employers may conduct an investigation when receiving specific information about an employee's activity on a personal social media account, in order to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, or workplace misconduct rules. As part of such investigation, the employer may require the employee to share content that has been reported to the employer in order to make a factual determination. However, the employer may not require the employee or applicant to disclose a user names or password to the account.

Facebook has been handing out temp bans like candy from what I hear from friends. Their algorithm overreact to a word (or doesn't get jokes) or misinterprets a picture., or objects to a link.
Maybe if one did those things enough one found ran a real ban.
Meanwhile the most hateful accounts and pages can proceed unimpeded. 🙄

Ignore/decline all friend requests? Will your company allow you to use initials instead for First / Middle Names? That will make it less recognizable. Use a photo of a cat for your avatar. All those combined might help you create an account that is only useful as a login tool.

It sounds like there's some serious backstory (that is none of our business) as to why you are so alarmed by this requirement. Not knowing or understanding the root conflict makes it difficult to offer any advice, but I guess we can just tut tut gently as you vent.

At least no one who knows me would ever search for my legal name.

I would suggest poisoning the profile. Use a stock photo for the profile. Include a Cleveland Browns banner for the banner image. Make up random past jobs and education. List fictional (but not popular) characters as relatives. List places far away that you have never been to as your past addresses and hometown. Unless you have a distinctive name that will make people question if it is your account. Plus really fuck up their ad recommendations.

There is also This person does not exist.. They are computer generated images of people who don't exist. Keep hitting refresh till you find one you like.

as cool as that would be, I'm required like every one else to use our real images or face disciplinary actions.
Oh gawd. Well maybe a crappy picture with sunglasses and a hat.

Yes, very lazy. No doubt management have been persuaded that everything will be so much easier. As for security, well ... yeah, I have many doubts.
Seems Facebook has something designed for businesses in place of MS Teams or Slack.

I don't think I am even required to use my actual face in our corporate proprietary system. Lots of people have sports teams and whatnot. I think I still have a Christmas ornament.
