Been watching Old Tony for a long time ... I like his sense of humor.

I found out about him when he made some parts for the new Wintergatan marble machine.

I find stuff like this quite relaxing and also appreciate the humor.

I like Practical Engineering, the guy knows his stuff pretty well and talks to you like he's your next door neighbor. Not all that big on the humor, but he's consistently likable and fits it in where he can, you won't be bored.

If it weren't for VVO and you detrius I would never have watched an almost eight minute video about sand and dirt. That was interesting!

Thanks Detrius, now I have to giggle through more of those videos as he's ably assisted by Optimus Prime and keeps saying aloominum just for my amusement :)

A small video about the history of lathes and their impact on the world:

When I hear about people like Jacques de Vaucanson, it really irks me how their names are largely unknown today, even though a lot of our modern world is based on their contributions.

Or take stories about teams of doctors and nurses who work 12-hour-shifts to pull kids back from the brink of death after they got into an accident, only to hear those kids' parents praise Jesus afterwards.

It just seems so ungrateful.

I know this is going to offend some people, but I honestly think that our churches should be dedicated to names like Jacques de Vaucanson, Marie Curie or Louis Pasteur instead of a guy who's main accomplishment was to get nailed to a cross, if he even existed.

Btw., Nov. 7th is Marie Curie's 151st birthday.

Seems like the perfect date to gift a science kit to your grandchildren, nieces or nephews.

Fuck Christmas presents.

I'll start with my all time favorite: the art of making a nixie tube!

Here's another engineer, but explaining stuff:

And here's Great Scott:

And of course the King of Random, with over 10 million subscribers:

Some knife restorations are also quite interesting:

I really enjoyed that video. I remember from my time in manufacturing that a lot of real world production is still done on old fashioned lathes from the 1940's. It's mostly just electric motors and better steels that separates them from the original. Fancier, computer aided systems still aren't universally used.

Something about watching complicated stuff being machined...
