I noticed sort of similar posts randomly popping into my Instagram feed. They were like bubble gum trading cards featuring Republican, mostly Trump, politicians. A Democrat would rarely appear but they were overwhelmingly Trump and his fellow puppets. They appeared post election but did vanish about two weeks ago. My thought was always that it was an intentional Meta plant.

'Free Speech' Platfrom X Suspends Opposition Party Accounts in Turkey

The bans follow demonstrations protesting the arrest of Erdoğan's main political rival.

Following the arrest of the primary political rival of Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdoğan, demonstrators have taken to the streets and to social media to protest the seemingly politically motivated action. According to Politico, some of those who have taken to speaking out against the government have been suspended on X.

Per Politico’s reporting, “university-associated activist accounts” that share protest information including times and locations for students and other activists who might want to participate have been the primary targets of the suspensions. Most of the accounts are described as “grassroots activists” with relatively small followings, typically in the tens of thousands.

In some cases, it seems those accounts have been suspended in Turkey—where their information is most relevant—and not in the rest of the world. One activist, Ömer Faruk Aslan, created a second account to dodge the local censorship, and claimed that his primary account got suspended after one of his posts exceeded six million views on the platform.

E.U. Prepares Major Penalties Against Elon Musk’s X (archive.today)

European Union regulators are preparing major penalties against Elon Musk’s social media platform X for breaking a landmark law to combat illicit content and disinformation, said four people with knowledge of the plans, a move that is likely to ratchet up tensions with the United States by targeting one of President Trump’s closest advisers.

The penalties are set to include a fine and demands for product changes, said the people, who declined to be identified discussing an ongoing investigation. These are expected to be announced this summer and will be the first issued under a new E.U. law intended to force social media companies to police their services, they said.

European authorities have been weighing how large a fine to issue X as they consider the risks of further antagonizing Mr. Trump amid wider trans-Atlantic disputes over trade, tariffs and the war in Ukraine. The fine could surpass $1 billion, one person said, as regulators seek to make an example of X to deter other companies from violating the law, called the Digital Services Act.

Elon Musk's X to clamp down on parody accounts

Some users have complained about Elon Musk parody accounts on the platform.

X is bringing in stricter rules around parody accounts.

From 10 April, accounts which impersonate another user or person must use key words such as "fake" or "parody" at the start of their account names.

The platform will also require parody account holders to use different images to the X accounts belonging to those they seek to represent.
