Hunting is not as common as it was a few centuries ago, but hunting breeds continue to be popular pets.

I rarely come across a dachshund these days that's owned strictly to flush out rabbits or badgers. It's a bit of a downer that as the task for which it was bred petered out, so did the turnspit breed, like it was never offered the experience of enjoying its sunset years.
