I don't actively keep it a secret, but I don't talk about it too much. My family knows I'm in SL...my closest friends. It's a part of my life because my SL partner is a part of my life, although long distance, so the important people know.

Only a handful of people in RL know about my SL, and almost all of them I'd met in Second Life before that. I prefer to keep it that way — too many awkward questions from people who just don't get it. My therapist knows more than anyone else though!

That's how I feel too. Most people I know in RL doesn't seem to have any idea what SL is at all and those few who do, seem to have some rather weird and incorrect ideas. So it would take a lot of explaining and I can't imagine any of them would be interested.

Used to talk more about SL in 2005 - 2009 time period as was really active then to the extent I had SL video and radio work in my uni profile (my uni of course was one of those that jumped to immediately make a virtual campus they forgot about the next day. It is still there.) and was interviewed by Newsweek about it. Nowadays, most people do not know what I am using because I use SL as 3d rendering engine for crappy pictures and this is what people see me editing. Fun fact - I have a cousin who hates me for being gay (and it is his words) whom I obviously ignore yet he happened to find my Flickr. My Flickr has a lot of porn . I was very proud of myself while he oddly enough did not scream about gayness but my boyfriend not being white. To be fair - I never had a job that was very formal meaning I had to keep appearances professional and ironically I found out me and my old boss known each other in SL without realising ... after I left that job.

I don't hide that I'm involved in Second Life. I even talk to people about what I do there. What I don't do is tell people my account names and give them actual information to locate me in world if they join up. The last thing I want is people that I know in RL showing up in my SL. I come into SL to escape from RL. I don't want RL looking me up on line.

I want to go to a certain re-created historical village in New Zealand, wear some kind of hat with the ! quest marker and say "Hello Adventurer, Welcome to Honeywood!" Also want to walk by the same spot with a fishing pole and say "Nice day for fishin, aint it. Ha huh" I may have watched VLDL's Epic NPC Man videos a few times. ;-)
