The biggest game of the year, the long anticipated and incredibly hyped Cyberpunk 2077 is finally out after multiple delays

Reviews are mixed, most noting the current buggy state of the game even after so many delays. Still, it is a masterpiece that will hopefully get more polish over the next few months.

Note: if you have the original Xbox One (not x) or the non-Pro PS4, you may want to avoid the game. Reports of the performance of the game on those systems are not good.

I was seeing a lot of artificing and tearing on systems that are pretty much cutting edge. I'm also underwhelmed by the seriously limited amount of choices to customize your character. Hopefully they push some dlc that expands your choices or that it can be modded. It is lovely to look at but, to me, it feels not quite polished before being pushed out the door. I get that its close, we need this out to make our numbers vibe.

I have about 8 hours in so far, but I play these games slow, read all the lore and stuff like that.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the graphics, but I'm doing fine. I don't have a massively overpowered system. I built it a year ago, it's just a ryzen 7 2700x, a RX570 8Gb card, and 32 Gb of 3000 Mhz RAM. Here's the full specs.

My FPS on ultra with 1080p is like 15-20, but I got it up to 30 with ultra settings, by turning cascading shadow range, cascading shadow resolution, and distant shadows to low, and turning off film grain, motion blur, chromatic aberration, and depth of field. Those things just distract me from the game, anyway. On medium I'm getting 60 fps.

The genital customization in the game will be underwhelming to SL players. You have circumcised and uncircumcized in small, medium, and large, and one vagina option. Even the oldest Xcite cocks have more options than that! You can't even choose to have multiple genitals, or a vagina and a penis. Plus, what about weird shit? No tentacles? In a future with all kinds of crazy cybernetics, nobody is walking around packing a full set of octopus tentacles in their shorts? IDK if that's a future I want to live in. Literally unplayable! LOL

Seriously, though, the appearance options are kinda basic. It's menu style, no sliders. The only things you can't change later on is your hair and tattoos.

The story is good so far. The controls are a bit clunky, but after the first mission as a street kid, I got used to them. I keep changing between keyboard and xbox controller, but that's how I play most FPS roleplaying games, especially when there's driving. Driving with a keyboard and mouse is as unsatisfying as trying to shoot with a controller.

I'm going to try finishing the prologues with street kid, nomad, and corp, to see which one I want before going past the prologue. Did I mention I play these games slow?

Ah well, it was a long shot. First I was getting the message 2077 has been flatlined. It turns out my reason for getting that was different than most people. The stack trace said a sound file was missing. So I checked the integrity of the game and steam fixed it. But then I was only getting around 3 fps a lot of the time so I asked for my refund within steams two hour refund window.

Maybe some day if I ever get a decent computer.

Say wha?

Cyberpunk 2077 is out and it has some bugs, one of which includes players’ characters’ dicks popping out of their pants.

Cyberpunk has two penis types, with a size slider for each. Apparently some of the dicks players have selected don’t play nice with their character’s clothing choices on the equipment screen, clipping out past the fabric as if the pants were just holographic projections
The issue doesn’t appear to be confined to dicks alone. Some characters’ breasts are also blasting through their threads (the game’s super-cyberpunk name for clothes).
And nobody noticed this during testing. Suuuuuuuure.

I finally got around to playing the Nomad's life path arc. All life paths are the same after like 5-10 minutes. The street kid's story was the best written. The corporate story arc is the best if you want to read all the shards giving you a deeper history of the world, and the Nomad is just... broken. The Nomad life path dialog is nonsensical. It's as if they made it, then an editor chopped off half the dialog, and didn't copywright it after the edits, at all. I"m always responding to things the other person did not say, or they are responding to things I did not say. The sound bugged out on me with the nomad, so it was hard to hear, and I had to rely on subtitles.

I am still having fun, but not the kind of fun I wanted to have. I'm running as a street kid solo, because I get the feeling this game will not really have interesting things for techies or net runners or stealthy characters to do. It's just an instinct you get when you are playing a game, and you know after a little while that the game just has no soul. I don't expect nuance, or elegant design that rewards creativity or exploration or clever use of the skill tree. I expect to shoot everybody in their stupid faces, using the biggest cannon I can find. If you want to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077, you need to realize that it's just an FPS with delusions of grandeur. It's a fun FPS, but it's not actually a decent RPG.

I feel bad for the people who bought it for their consoles. They should all get refunds and apologies.

Well, nexusmods is already hosting 81 mods for the game. Mostly reshades and character presets. This is pretty much the same pattern I saw with The Outer Worlds which has been essentially abandoned by the modding community. Will CP2077 have legs or will it fade just as quickly? We'll see.

Meanwhile, CP2077 delivers a very realistic simulation of email!

No certainty over To: and From: addressing, and no specified date/time for the email. Definitely seems the direction we're going.

Well I really wonder... talking about dicks. There's in the beginning this one mission where V has to rescue Sandra Dorsett. He has to pull her out of a bath tub filled with ice cubes and cold water, totally naked and the games shows everything.

Has this been edited for the USA audience?

Nah, we got to see everything.

I would be surprised if they didn't censor it in Australia.

Aling those lines... some in China want the game totally banned for not recognizing China's bullshit claim to Taiwan.

Easy fix. Just add a newscrawl, or radio mention of "This Friday marks the 75th anniversary of Taiwan's independence" or such. However then we need a little blurb about China's efforts to celebrate being named birthplace of pandemics for 200 years straight...

I pre-ordered this game months ago but I waited on release day, knowing it would be buggy (from other reports on the web). Even 3 days after release and I don't know how many patches, it's still buggy.

I have a layer of mud/rock on my screen that I originally thought was just mud on my vehicle's windscreen. No, that's part of the graphics that move with you when you turn your character. So then I hopped in my vehicle for my first mission on the cell tower. Made it up ok, jumped too far coming down and lost half my health. That would matter except the vehicle controls are JUST AS SCREWED UP as most FPS games. No mouse control, I don't use a controller, and there IS NO REVERSE! As a result, when I accidentally steered onto some rocks I couldn't back off them. I hopped out and thought I'd run into town (why I don't know). Sure enough, when I jumped off some rocks I got stuck behind some cactus.

I don't know if there's a /stuck command like in other games. Or a respawn command. But this is definitely not ready for release - not when you get stuck on geometry twice in 5 minutes. In Borderlands, your vehicle was a digital construction you could re-rez at the appropriate bay. Not so in this disaster.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying "Last Epoch" a bit while I wait for the first big patch to fix a horribly broken CP2077. It took me 4 years to go back to No Man's Sky, but it was a decent game by then. Hopefully it won't take that long with CP. I won't hold my breath.

Over 20 hours in and loving this game it's everything I expected it to be and more.

Sure there are bugs like most AAA games on release but have not found any yet that are game breaking.
Had a couple of crashes before I updated my gfx card driver and the latest patch but none since.

Have to agree the driving is bad, it reminds Watch Dogs 1
btw S is the key for reverse, maybe you were really stuck on that rock.

I always reset default keyboard configs because none of the games use what I prefer - but in this case, I did not see a setting for "Reverse" at all. Right, left, forward. That's it. It's also why I never played the Hitman series or GTA - driving controls are brutal.

Rocks, Cactus, whatever - it undercuts my trust in the game to ignore my fumbling fingers. I keep going back to Borderlands as my ideal game for this very reason. All games should make it extremely hard for a player to fuck up their game like this. Because we WILL fuck it up :)

You're right, you can't remap the S key, or the F key in the game settings menus. You have to edit an xml file for that. Here's a reddit post about it. Basically, go to your SteamLibrary folder, and open SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\r6\config\inputUserMappings.xml and edit it. If you want to map F to G, replace every instance of IK_F to IK_G. If you want the S key, it's probably replace every instance of IK_S with IK_B, or whatever key you want to replace it with.

That really is a bad oversight on CDPR's part.

Also, if you are on a controller like me (I used an old Xbox 360 to drive), you might want to drop the inner dead zone setting in settings, under controls. They have it set to 0.3 or something stupid. I set it to 0.01 and it plays better. You might want to experiment, some peopole put it at zero or something, but I don't think anybody actually wants it at 0.03. You might have more fun tweaking the outer dead zone setting, too.
