Ok, well I am finding out that things are not as universal in the US as I thought. Talking to several parents today and found out none of their kids are vaccinated. They live in the deep south and midwest. They said their pediatricians are telling them the shots are not approved yet for 5-10 year olds. I pasted them the FDA link that showed they are. Now they're wondering why they can't get them. After further discussion, they said they have to go to their doctors to get the shots, they can't get them anywhere else unless the doctor refers them there.

Now here in Virginia, the shots are pretty much available in any corner drug store. You can pop online to pharmacies in your area and schedule any of the 3 available types of vaccine. Easy as pie.

It seems that there are more barriers to getting vaccinated than I thought. What are other's experiences? I thought it was easily available everywhere, but I guess I was wrong.

I'm not sure about the wisdom of arguing with an anti-vaxxer, since they've "done their own research" and there's no changing their minds, but I think some of these points might be useful for allaying the fears of people who aren't opposed to the vaccine as such, but are more vaccine hesitant, for whatever reason.

The Onion must be having a rough time when real stories are as ludicrous as anything they could come up with.
"There are more of us than there are of them. "? Looks like Sarah ("I can see Russia from my house ") isn't any better at math than she is at geography. 72% > 27%. (Vaxxed at let one dose vs unvaxxed. Well, maybe not in Alaska).
But remember, if you are not -one of them- you aren't a person, certainly not a 'real' american, and all that rot.

Conspiracy theory and misinformation are sizeable and worrying features of the Covid era, and our politicians still say surprisingly little about them. But particularly in cities, beyond high levels of mobility and transience, figures showing large numbers of unvaccinated people reflect much deeper questions of age, class, ethnicity, faith and language – and what poverty, insecurity and institutionalised prejudice do to people’s relationship with the state. In that sense, the limits of the vaccination drive remind us of one of the most simple truths of power and politics: that if governments continually ignore fundamental issues of trust and basic empathy, any big social rupture will instantly reveal the consequences.
