... If you were not officially "positive" before you died then you are not a coronavirus death and never will be.
You could die before your test results come back. I know of one case where that happened and that person was counted, and it's probably happened more than once. Good times.

Nothing against eku, but .....

The more realistic number is probably the 21million mobile phone users who disappeared.
Searched for that and found it on Breitbart. I do think the right wing media is trying to play up China as a villain to distract from Trump's mismanagement. Who knows why they were disconnected? Look! A cell phone someone could not afford to keep during lock down! Maybe, I don't know, but that's also assuming these 21 million cell phone accounts are real in the first place.

What is being seen in Italy etc is the real face of covid-19
Which, as far as I know, is the same as what happened in Wuhan and what is happening in Spain, France, across the U.S. and elsewhere. (I suspect they don't bother as much with ventilators or PPE in Iran. Now there's an untold story.) Meanwhile, there are reports in reputable news sources that restrictions are easing in Wuhan.

Personally I think China downplayed from the get go. They never counted people who dropped dead on the street, they never counted the people they welded into their homes.... etc etc etc.
They never counted the people they put into wood chippers. I liked that scene in Fargo. Showed up in The Irishman, too. (Ghoulish smile.)

Yes you can, but that's only because you were still alive when they did the test.

Like I said, they're not testing corpses.

I often wash some veggies/fruit with a dot of dish soap. Not because of the virus but because some have waxy residue (to keep away pests?) some tomatoes, apples, cucumbers... soap is bad?

Ok, I guess I’ll have to go read, lol

Yeah don't! Some of the softer produce can retain the dish soap, even in (or through) a skin, and dish soap wasn't made to be ingested!

The waxy stuff on the outside of fruit is edible; it's only there to make fruit look a little prettier in the grocery store lights, and perhaps helps retain a little moisture while it's sitting out. Water will flush the nasties off the surface just fine. :)

What about pesticide residues?
Well here's the thing about that. Fruits often come with like their own natural waxy coating anyways; but after the harvest, all fruit and vegetables are washed when being processed, and the washing gets rid of that natural wax. Any pesticides and field-stuff that's on the produce at harvest time gets washed off with that natural coating (which is half the point, really). So that particular part is kind of already handled for you. Part of the reason they add the new wax is to replace the one that's washed off.

With all the talk about China falsifying numbers, I'd like to say that two months of lock downs damn well better produce results. Otherwise, we are all screwed.

This news from four days ago may be worth pointing out: Wuhan eases coronavirus lockdown as restrictions intensify outside China.

To my mind, actions speak louder than words, so even if the absolute values of their numbers are incorrect, their actions to at least some degree confirm the reported trend.

My own fevered conspiracy theory about the situation goes:

China's numbers are wrong -> China's isolation measures don't work -> Our isolation measures don't work. -> Save the economy. -> Eff the vulnerable. -> Foster division and mistrust. -> And we all know who has been trying to foster division and mistrust on social media.

Of course, I don't have proof, so I don't spend (much) time promoting my conspiracy theory on the internet even though it seems somewhat logical.

Overall, I believe there are reasons to accept the trends in the China data. For example:
  • We don't have anything better to go by.
  • China implemented stringent social distancing measures starting in January and enforced them.
  • The absolute numbers all over the world are known to be inaccurate because of unreported cases, but we mostly accept the reported trends elsewhere.
  • China has a well developed medical infrastructure for monitoring illness unlike other countries not reporting illness.
If there were more substantive points raised in favor of totally ignoring the numbers from China, one could probably add further counter arguments to this list, but I don't see substantive arguments given to argue against. The only reason I can think to doubt China's trend is the feeling that it is too good to be true. I'm pretty cynical, but sometimes I do hope. (Edited to delete a redundant sentence.)
Right wing media troll much? There is no sovereignity in death :kittyball:

Others might wonder why I react that way, In order to understand me look at the combination of nickname, active topics and behaviour of this poster...

Here is a face of the Coronavirus, an MD from Madrid, Spain. No gallows humor here. Don't watch it if you are emotionally vulnerable at the moment.

Madrid faltan ventiladores ! increíble lo que está pasando!!!

It is also shown in a John Campbell video with subtitles at minute 2:26.

Friday 27th March Update

I have relied on John Campbell and MedCram for much of my info since January. MedCram is here. This forum has filled in a lot of gaps. Thank you!

ETA: accused of trolling already. Ho hum.

When it comes to the statistics reported from China, the spike on the 12th of Feb and fast flattening of the curve are, to say the least, odd.

New Orleans leaders object to Mardi Gras coronavirus criticism

Some, including Gov. John Bel Edwards, also complained that the sideshow distracts from frantic efforts by public officials and health care workers to avert a potential catastrophe, as the number of people critically ill from coronavirus continue to rise, local leaders said.

Cantrell and Edwards both say there were no warnings to cancel the massive street party from federal leaders or public health agencies.

The failure to fully grasp the coronavirus threat sooner, in other words, was a national one.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time remained tightly focused on travelers coming into the country from China and raised no alarm that the coronavirus might already be spreading rapidly within the country itself. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, repeatedly sought to assure Americans that the virus was tightly contained.

Many New Orleanians bristled Friday at the suggestion that city leaders had somehow fiddled, Nero-like, as the city coughed its way into a crisis, saying it was simply the latest example of New Orleans’ carefree spirit being portrayed as irresponsibility.

“This is a crock of foolishness, and at the end of the day they ought to find something more constructive to do rather than bashing us for something that no one had the slightest idea would happen,” City Councilman Jay Banks said.

“What should San Francisco have done differently? What should New York have done differently? Theirs was ‘just because’ and ours was intentional because we had Mardi Gras?” said Banks. “Bulls---t.”

“I agree with the mayor,” said City Councilman Joe Giarrusso. “She and the city did not have enough information and warning at that point to conclude that this was a pandemic that would affect us in the way that it did.”

No other cities were cancelling large events at the time. Organizers didn’t pull the plug on South by Southwest — a huge festival in Austin, Texas, that was one of the first major events canceled because of coronavirus — until almost two weeks after Fat Tuesday.

Edwards likewise said neither he nor top state health officials received any warnings from the feds about Mardi Gras. Edwards noted that there were only 15 known cases of coronavirus in the entire nation at the time of Mardi Gras, all of them tied to foreign travel.

The flattening is the effect of social distancing, the lockdown in Wuhan principally.

The jump in numbers is because they started including people who were diagnosed clinically, no antigen test. You can watch the MedCram and John Campbell videos at that time. They discuss the confusion in how cases were being counted.

Yeah. No.

Holding Mardi Gras was a bad idea, and they had all the information they needed to know that. They're just using the lack of federal action as cover for their decision to prioritize business over public health.
Where would the city leaders have gotten the information from?

The CDC first made the announcement that they thought this could end up being a serious problem in the US after all, on Mardi Gras night.
