I'm almost to that point... except urban cross-walk buttons and coffee shops are my daily risk vector.
The annoying thing is a lot of those buttons do not do anything ... but not all of them. You have to regularly be near an intersection before you know which a certain button is.

It's not just Australia. My local WallyWorld's TP shelves were almost bare when I was there a couple of days ago. Hand sanitizer was cleaned out, too. The usual stock-up-for-the-impendiing-end-of-world items, such as milk, eggs, beer & booze seemed at normal stock levels, but TP --- gonesville.

I'll just mention in passing what an admirable level of maturity I demonstrated by not writing "TP supplies were wiped out."

Well, up till that sentence, anyway ...
One time I forgot a storm was headed my way and made my usual trip to the grocery store before work. It turns out someone else was there for similar reasons. We had a mutual laugh at people buying any perishables they could find before a storm that was predicted to knock out the power.

I can confirm that Medicare email is real cause I got one this morning. And that cartoon that Jopsy posted is definitely me! I go grocery shopping a couple times a month depending on the sales at my local store. And I take my garbage can to the road & check my mailbox at the same time once a week (Sunday in time for Monday morning garbage pickup). I'm such a hermit!

They are usually called "plague ships" after the Genoese trading fleet who brought the Black Death to Sicily, and thence to the rest of Europe. All the crew were either infected or dead on the ones which made port. In other cases all of the crew were dead, and the ships drifted to shore elsewhere. The dead ships were looted, helping to spread the disease.

I cannot believe these words came out of the idiot’s mouth:

"Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it's very mild. They'll get better very rapidly. They don't even see a doctor. They don't even call a doctor," Trump said.

"You never hear about those people. So you can't put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and — or virus. So you just can't do that," he continued. "So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work but they get better."

That was my reaction too. What sort of an idiot has the world's experts talking to them every day and giving them their best guess. Then says that vomit?

To be fair, I think this is simply a garbled version of what he's been told but hasn't really understood.

As I understand it, from what we're being told over here,

Sources at the WHO pointed out to the Guardian that the 3.4% figure represented no more than a snapshot of the total number of reported deaths over the number of reported cases on the given day. “It’s not a mortality rate. But it is the math. The calculation on the given day.”

“Globally, about 3.4% of reported Covid-19 cases [the technical term for the novel coronavirus strain responsible for the outbreak] have died,” WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, I read

At the start of an outbreak the apparent mortality rate can be an overestimate if a lot of mild cases are being missed. But this week, a WHO expert suggested that this has not been the case with Covid-19. Bruce Aylward, who led an international mission to China to learn about the virus and the country’s response, said the evidence did not suggest that we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg. If borne out by further testing, this could mean that current estimates of a roughly 1% fatality rate are accurate. This would make Covid-19 about 10 times more deadly than seasonal flu, which is estimated to kill between 290,000 and 650,000 people a year globally.
Ten times as many as the regular flu means an awful lot more people will die as a result of this outbreak than would normally be expected, and and it doesn't begin to take into account the effect this is going to have on health care generally.

I don't know how many people suffering from Covid-19 will be so badly affected they require hospital treatment, but it's going to be considerably more than the 1% who actually die from the illness, and that's on top of all the people the hospital will be treating in the normal course of events, not instead of.

And on top of that, there's the problem that the medical and nursing staff will all be at very high risk of infection, since they're treating so many people carrying the virus, meaning they'll need to be quarantined.

So on the face of it, if you untangle what he was saying, it's quite right -- everyone agrees the 3.4% snapshot is not the actual death rate but just what the numbers looked like on a particular day, but he was clearly simply trying to repeat what he'd been told but hadn't understood, while trying to spin it to minimise the seriousness of an impending and tremendously grave impending crisis in medical care that he doesn't begin to comprehend.

But he’s implying people who are sick can go to work. And he has millions of worshippers who take his word as gospel.

This Portland Reddit thread made me laugh because I know most of these places. They are almost all gone now. A lot of them were quite unhygienic. The original poster showing the Satyricon - wow did that place rock. Unlike any other club I've ever been to. It held maybe 500 people, I don't know. I don't know how to properly describe it though. It was so intense.

Yamhill Pub, kind of a running joke in r/portland. Not bad at all for hygiene, still there.

Rocco's pizza, The Ash St Saloon, the Burger King on Burnside, Matador, Dante's, Joe's Cellar, Slabtown.

I think Dante's and Joe's Cellar are still there, the rest are gone.

Memories.

White House concedes US lacks enough test kits

The White House has acknowledged the nation does not have enough coronavirus test kits as cases of the disease ticked upwards on both US coasts.
Vice-President Mike Pence said the Trump administration would not be able to meet its objective of delivering one million testing kits this week.
Congress meanwhile moved with unusual speed to approve a bumper emergency aid package to combat the outbreak.
Globally, authorities have confirmed more than 92,000 cases of the virus.

Surprised there has not been more focus on this in the United States. It is becoming clearer that COVID-19 disproportionately impacts US presidents, his supporters, as well as presidential candidates in general.

(From the comments in the thread it sounds like men have a higher mortality rate as well.)

Edit to Add: Nightmare scenario - Pres. Trump passes away after getting infected with COVID-19. VP Pence runs on a platform raising Trump as a martyr for the jihad.
