I am constantly amazed by people wanting to know what day we are opening. What is the rush? Especially since people can head out for short walks if they need them. I do not plan on leaving my building until at least next year or whenever there is a vaccine/treatment.

Maybe it is because both my spouse and I have preexisting conditions?
Maybe it is because we are introverts?
Maybe it is because I am from a culture that make introverts look like extroverts?
Maybe it is because I actually follow science?

Does anyone else feel the same way or am I really extreme in my social isolation?

No I'm hearing the same thing. Yes, I miss my friends and yes, I miss not having to wear a damn mask but all in all, I'm doing fine because I have spent a lot of time alone and just with my husband and we can find millions of things to do and to talk about.

i'm starting to get tired of having to wear a mask as well.

absence of human contact is throwing everyone off... endorphins, serotonin and oxytocin(Happy and Love).. chemicals that we would normally get from being around people is gone or at low levels. some people have become agressive without their "fix". everyone is different and some people can survive longer without need for interaction but it's still an Trait of humans to be social even if it is just standing near someone. Watching videos of people complaining they will kill themselves as "this is no way to live!"... makes me ponder more about what life is.... are we really that fickle?

My biggest problem is I really miss going up to see my mom. But I'm not going to risk going 5 hours away until I -have- to.

Are that many people isolated with absolutely nobody else?

Same here. No plans to end our isolation in the forseeable future. My wife goes out shopping more often than I'm comfortable with, but she suits up with mask and gloves, so we can do this for years, no matter what anyone else in this country chooses to do.

Yes, we are both perfectly fine with staying holed up with an undefined end date as long as the world continues and it delivers stuff to us. Our docs might get upset with us that they can not do tests they are unable to do over telehealth but there are more pressing medical issues right now.

I don't know what to make of this... authorities have been saying all along that corona kills more smokers than non-smokers. IIRC, one doctor said on social media that the death rate among smokers with corona is something like 15-20%. I was under the impression that if you get corona, smoking is as bad as obesity, if not worse.

Now I see this story from Vice, saying that less smokers with corona are hospitalized.

I haven't seen any raw data, but maybe it's possible that both things are true? Maybe if you smoke, you are less likely to be hospitalized, but if you are hospitalized, you are more likely to die than non-smokers?

Or maybe big tobacco is buying native advertising in Vice?

Or maybe people are drawing wild conclusions from bad data, because testing and reporting is so bad?

I think that it is dichotomies similar to this that are really frustrating doctors right now. With regard to smoking, it could be how they recorded if someone was a smoker or not or it could just be regional differences. The crazy thing about this virus is that it is presenting in so many different ways. Some patients go into the ER with extremely low blood oxygen levels but their lungs are clear, like altitude sickness. Others actually have fluid in their lungs and yet others have blood clots rather than fluid in their lungs. Not to mention the whole eye infection and loss of the sense of smell thing and also what they are seeing recently presented in children where their finger tips and toe tips are blue and they have a rash, similar to Kawasaki Disease.

Symptoms of this virus are all over the place. Because testing has been so sparse and reporting has been a challenge, I'm not even sure we know what the real mortality rate is.

Nope. I went shopping today for the first time in 16 days. Haven't been away from home otherwise except for dropping off mail at the post office, which doesn't involve human contact. I retired from Boeing several years ago, and have been working part-time from a home office since. So I didn't go out much before the virus. The biggest change in my routine is just going shopping less often. I live on three acres that's mostly wooded, so I get outside every day the weather isn't too nasty.

Plenty of people around here are on the NextDoor social site, so that's how a lot of people are staying in touch without physically getting together.

Today Seheult gave background info for upcoming videos. Boiled down:

There is a paradox in how human cells work.

They need to add electrons to O2 (oxygen molecules) for cell respiration to work (the animal equivalent of photosynthesis), but adding an electron creates a dangerous specie of O2 called super-oxide which is highly reactive and potentially quite damaging.

Normally various enzymes help manage the super-oxide.

ACE2 is one such enzyme, but could be depleted by COVID-19. Other mechanisms exist, but if they are also not working well then the super-oxide concentrations might create immediate dangers.

I'm not sure where fickleness figures into it.
And I don't know what videos you've seen, or anything about the people in them. But I knew when I've said this is no way to live I haven't been complaining. I've been stating simple fact, or expressing anguish, or both.
When you struggle with depression and anxiety normally and then find yourself living in this nightmare, not knowing when it will end, you just want it to stop. It's exhausting and it hurts psychically.
To call that complaining is to minimize it.

Probably the last option. People tend to use small data sets and not look at things that go against their conclusions.

Be glad you are not posting that to a list I am on as someone there recently became convinced ozone therapy is the solution. I tried telling him not to post pseudoscience. When he persisted I told him he was wrong and the answer was Reiki.

Am I the only one frustrated with wearing a mask to keep others safe while they do not return the courtesy? How best to remind them as they can not fail to have noticed all the people around them doing the same?
