Issue with Cloudflare's DNS service shuts down half the web

Scores of websites and services went down Friday afternoon due to problems with Cloudflare’s DNS service, sparking rampant speculation about the cause. After all, a global DDOS attack would totally fit the real-life apocalypse movie that 2020 is increasingly turning into.

The outage, which started shortly after 5 p.m. ET, brought down popular sites and services like Discord, Politico, Feedly, and League of Legends for roughly half an hour on Friday. Once connections were restored, Cloudflare issued an incident report stating that the issue “was not as a result of an attack” and that it “has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”

Turns out the real explanation’s nothing so nefarious. Evidently, half the internet briefly went dark because of a crappy router in Atlanta.

Nope, it's just a running gag in the IT industry that Cloudflare's security claims are utter bullshit and they don't deliver. Their marketing people have a PhD in bullshitism, are smoking burning socks from Trump as their weed and never fail to create such claims.

So if you want a bullshit cyber security snake oil in front of your web site which in reality does nothing but you think it does because you don't know better and don't have the necessary skills nor know one, then you do use Cloudflare because "it is for free" for most of them.

All people which do know security either do it by themselves or use proper tools which though cost real money, because they do know the legendary track record of Cloudflare's epic fails, pestering millions of web users with Captchas, slowing down web speed instead of accelearting it, not being able to handle a DNS root zone, Cloudbleed, their ridiculous "Heartbleed is not exploitable in our case" and it was, blocking Tor at large, overall outage in 2019, big DNS outage. There are tons of more fails around by the way. And good IT people know the reality: Cloudflare is just about sucking up all of your data.
