A majority of the comments echoed this one "More climate change bollocks."

And this other comment truly captures the resistance any politician would face if they tried to make substantive policies to bring down emissions:
It's all part of the agenda of fear and to push their climate change and environmental messages. The problem is most people see through the coercion and it just alienates them more. Stop with the fear mongering. You are scaring our children and that is WRONG!
They don't see the BBC (or any other MSM organization as credible anymore, so there's no way to provide factual evidence to this audience. Government, media, scientists, they are all seen as corrupt and pursuing a private agenda of disinformation to "scare" people. Because, of course, the message really IS scary, so far more comfortable to assume they're lying than to accept the truth.

The oil companies have won the propaganda war with enough people to water down or block substantive policy changes in democratic countries, and most of the leaders of non-democratic countries don't care. smh

Children should be scared. They're the ones who are going to have to deal with the deadly heat and other disasters.

We have to allow nature to fix itself. Yet humans refuse to change.
"Fix" implies that there is some ideal state of nature. There's really only an ideal state from our perspective, one that suits our species. We may never see that again.

Nature is a dynamic system with periods of equilibrium. Nothing is ever broken, it's just moving again.

Yes, but comments on what used to be called Twitter aren't always, thank heavens, typical of the population as a whole.

Obviously I don't know what it's like in the US but in the UK the picture is, I think, rather different:

A recent survey by the group More In Common paints the same picture, with Climate Change and the Environment ranking #3 in voters' concerns, after the cost of living and the state of the NHS:

Preaching to the choir. On the other hand, humans aren't the only ones suffering from the heat. Plants and animals are dying from it.

“I am very concerned, as long as:

it doesn’t cost money.”
it doesn’t cost me any votes.”
it doesn’t scare me.”
it doesn’t lose us clicks.”

But mostly, as long as it doesn’t inconvenience me.”

We’re too used to our way of living, and many people across the world are already existing on the basics. Not sure they would like to sacrifice their own progress (cars, etc.) when so many countries have achieved a certain level of progress using oil.

What happens when what little oil is left can't be reached, financially and otherwise?

Behold... the penis fish! Actually a worm, but hey...

Translation via DeepL:
Fishermen shared on social media the sighting of thousands of peculiarly shaped marine animals, nicknamed "penis fish", along the coast of a beach in Argentina.

These "fish" are actually marine worms belonging to the species Urechis unicinctus and were found in the Murtillar region, in the city of Rio Grande.

Since 4 July, several reports of the sighting of these animals have appeared on social networks, usually with a humorous tone due to their phallic shape.

The repercussion of the photos of these curious beings led local newspapers to report their appearance. On the Argentine coast, they are often used as bait for fishing.

The suspicion is that these animals, which usually hide in burrows at the bottom of the ocean, have been brought to the coast by storms that have stirred up the sea, according to the Del Fuego Noticias portal.

In addition, it is important to note that this curious species, with sizes ranging between 10 and 30 centimetres, is consumed in the cuisine of some regions of Asia, such as South Korea and China.

I hadn't realised this, but between them, China, the USA and India are responsible for over 50% of the world's CO2 emissions.

In roundish numbers that accounts for 3 billion of the 8 billion people in the world, or nearly half so not surprising.

Perhaps, but the table has a column for tonnes emitted per capita, which vary massively between countries, so I don't think it's just that.

The main conclusion I'd draw from the figures is that the approaches to net zero taken by the governments of those three countries, and China and the USA in particular, are going to have a hugely greater impact than those taken the government of any other countries.

Thanks, WolfEyes. Those links led to other links, too. It's like diving down a rabbit hole of heat coping knowledge.

Desert Submarines – Natural Building Blog
These structures stay cool in the desert (in the 60’s) using just evaporative cooling. The galvanized metal roof is covered with burlap, and water flows down over the top. A small RV pump is adequate to keep the system going.

Well, one of the often repeated current smoke screens many naysayers nowadays are using is that efforts to combat climate change mean nothing and are in vain since China's emissions are so big. And unless China does something, we could just move on like always.

In reality, if you can trust this guy here, China means business and really takes matter seriously.
