I AM A GRADUATE STUDENT AT ÇAĞ UNIVERSITY IN TURKEY CURRENTLY MAJORING IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND MARKETING. I AM WORKING ON MY MASTER’S THESIS. MY GOAL IS TO WRITE ABOUT OTHER SECOND LIFE USERS BESIDES MYSELF TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE METAVERSE AND OUR FUTURE IN IT. MY RL NAME IS BESTE.
I know it's hard to trust people we don't know in SL. Especially if these people are asking you to click on a link. Therefore, I am sharing my LinkedIn account with you so that you can trust me a little bit. https://www.linkedin.com/in/beste-demirci-a43b41172/
As part of this work, I'm looking at Second Life purchases and specifically the online shopping experience associated with the platform via the in-world shopping or Marketplace. That's why I created a questionnaire for shoppers to fill out. Filling out the questionnaire takes only a few minutes and no personal data is recorded as part of the study - only the answers to the questions.
The study is completely voluntary as it is anonymous. Many thanks in advance to those who want to help.
The link below will direct you to the relevant survey.

I filled it in, thanks. Seems like a fairly open and honest request.

I think you'll find better value not in the fill-out form but more open discussion. Second Life has ... um ... a lot of variety, in that traditional market segmentation techniques are only reliable for surface-level users of Second Life, while the people here often have a deep, years-long experience with deeply nuanced opinions. We are somewhat atypical from the average SL user. The experiences you'll get here are more often likely to be from creatives, people who do sell things, including many that are successful (my benchmark for "success" is that money made covers expenses).

tl/dr: you won't get enough responses to truly represent the SL marketplace, you should switch to something that requires a more personal investment. People in this community can fill you in on broad trends and how things are changing / moving.

I'll let someone else fill you in why our default attitude to surveys and "help me with my research" is generally :slu:.

Thank you so much. I will definitely share your valuable comments and suggestions with my thesis advisor. Apart from my survey, I also conducted a preliminary interview with about 30 people. I hope I can do something that will contribute.

This survey from the early days of VVO went OK.

Dear SecondLife gamers:

I have nearly completed my dissertation (in 2012, actually), which has nothing to do with SecondLife, but I feel negligent in not having spammed the wrong forum with a request to take a survey. So, please, answer the following questions with as much personal detail as possible:

1. Do you drink beer?

2. Do you like old buildings?

3. Do you like drinking beer in old buildings?

4. What is your RL gender?

5. What is your SL gender?

6. Have you ever had furry sex while drinking beer in an old building?

7. What is your email address?

7. Are there any marketing tips or personal information that I can exploit that you would care to pass along at this point?

Thank you for your time. This survey has not been approved by any institutional review board, and the results will not actually be used in my dissertation, since I have written the entire thing already (using mostly outdated articles that I found on the internet).

I am not surprised to see this topic come up with the recent interest in metaverse. SL has both good and bad experience to learn from.

I did have trouble with some questions as I don't think of buying from SL, I tend to look at vendors individually as in both their stores and on the marketplace there is a wide range of information from different sellers. Some are very informative while others are just putting up minimal info.

I noticed a number of SL pictures in your LinkedIn feed. That helps with research here as it shows you are engaged with SL. We have a long history of students coming to various SL related spaces to do surface level surveys without trying to understand SL or even spend time in world.

You might try using a picture of your SL avatar for your forum avatar. It helps build trust.

I am not very active in SL lately (occasionally rez & say Hello to friends) due to my computer being not good enough for a satisfactory experience, but I do expect to upgrade in the fall and expect to purchase new body. new clothes and new house. In the meantime , I dream and "window shop" on MP. If I finish the survey I'll make status clear in a comment.

It's difficult to answer some of the questions because SL is not one entity. but includes LL as well as different resident creators of widely differing ability and commitment.

I am impressed that you actually know what SL is :) and am more likely to want to help out a fellow resident as opposed to so many "researchers" who are often trying to prove a pre-conceived notion about something when they have no clue!

I haven't been here in a while, but I saw this thread title first and thought "here we go..."

You guys have mellowed...
They have been slacking. The same thread over on the other forum was more entertaining.
