Although, I can see that some of the overreaching regulations uncovered by expert investigations by British media such as not being able to give male names to female dogs can be a bit cumbersome.
All British tabloids are a bit cumbersome with their vast amounts of dreamed up stories.
Only topped by the peerless fantasies, presented as true and feasible by too many British MP's.

(CAFC).

I have heard about EU-regulations, where many ppl ask isnt that a little bit "overreaching" I remember regulations or proposals what can be sold under the name of "Cucumber" or "banana" One could discuss wether this is realy helpfull for daily trade.
But I have never heard about a regulation for dog-names.
And I dont know any registry office for registration for your dog's name.
So how to implement this regulation? People here dont know about the existence of such a law? regulation? which "expert investigations by British media uncovered"So nobody will call the police, when he hears an obviously male dog being called "Maggie", to punish this "crime"

So Silly
I am convinced it is like Sid said it is a typical story of the british tabloid press (owned by Murdoch).
This part of the british media is famous for such stories insulting the "frogs" (french), the Huns (germans), the EU, just to please the attitude of its readers, that Brits are something special, if not superior .

Mostly they just insult calling the EU "dirty rats" etc. but they are also not shy to produce lies...

When Hollywood is looking for an actor to portray a disliked British office-holder in the American Colonies, they look for someone who can do a portrayal of a person like Boris Johnson. An actor who can portray a person who pretends to more knowledge than he has, assumes everything is simpler than it is, and who disregards all evidence that contradicts his prejudices. (This description also fits Donald Trump, but the accent has to be correct, too. How did our two nations come to be bedeviled by two such utter jackasses?)

What is amazing here, is that there still are people who believe those BS stories about regulations of banana and cucumber shapes, condom sizes and dog names (that's a new one to me actually) are true.

And guess who invented the British press' appetite for "Euromyths" before he entered politics
And who owns the newpapers that spread all that nonsense?

Here's a lovely new conspiracy theory: Rupert Murdoch is actually a secret agent for his home country and both Trump and Brexit are parts of a sinister plan to make Australia the ruler of the world.

Murdoch's not the only, or even the worst, culprit. The Daily Telegraph belonged to Conrad Black when it hired Boris Johnson after The Times fired him for making up quotes in an interview, and was later bought by the Barclay brothers. The Daily Mail belongs to Jonathan Harmsworth and The Daily Express belongs to Richard Desmond.

Murdoch's Sun has certainly joined in the Euro-bashing press mob, but the real leaders were the Mail and the Express, whose sustained and venomous obsession with the EU descended into depths unplumbed since the Sun's glory days in the 1980s.

Brexit: Suicide warning if exit turns chaotic
Ministers are being told to prepare for a rise in suicide in the event of a chaotic no-deal Brexit, according to a leaked document seen by The Times.

Officials say that in the event of Britain leaving the EU without a deal and on unfriendly terms, they must “create a strategy with other government departments — handling the negative impacts (eg homelessness, poverty and suicide).”

From this side of the pond, I often see articles from the Daily Mail. It's easy to remember it's the Daily Fail.

The WTO alternative explained.

Yeah, him and his mates do a good job of explaining the problem on a non-political level.

I must say though it is a change of pace to see a bunch of politicians not be able to delay something because a completely different bunch of politicians will not let them. Too often political deadlines are more suggestions than what anyone else would call a deadline and the relevant politicos just decide to keep moving the line. An actual blunt statement of 'choose A, B, or C .... but if you do not choose it will be A on this date I have circled on the calendar' does not seem to get parsed well though.

Politics is one of those fields that requires no qualifications to enter.
Technically offices have requirements but they are things like 'be x years old and have a law degree' (not even always saying you have to pass the bar, just that you 'attended' what could be a diploma mill. Nothing like 'you must get 1200 combined on your SATs' or yearly accreditation in some hard field.
