As a British subject...
That reminds me of something I've been wondering about. The UK has subjects; all other nations, at least in the free(ish) world have citizens. Is it just semantics or does it make an actual difference?

Johnson and his threats to renege on the Withdrawal Agreement is a bit like Russia's threats to Finland and Sweden if they join NATO -- no one takes them seriously, and they're meant entirely for domestic consumption.

There's no way Johnson can get the measures through Parliament -- there's enough of his own backbenchers (and, I think, several ministers) who can't support HMG acting unlawfully and breaking international treaties they signed only two years ago to stop it, let alone the House of Lords' overwhelming rejection of the measure last time he tried it.

When I read such threads, I always wonder if Yes Minister really is a satire sitcom or just a documentary about RL politics.
It's a satire based almost entirely on reality -- in the books, Jay and Lynn footnoted each chapter with references comparing the stories with the actual events on which they're based.
