London (CNN)Boris Johnson might not be fully aware of it, but the next two weeks could contain two of the most significant moments in his premiership.

If he's not fully aware of that, he must be the only person in the UK who isn't.

I think the idea is to ram the deal through with a little time as possible for sceptics on both sides to pull it to pieces and then get back to Covid-19, while blaming Covid for the disruption caused by Brexit (whether with a deal or without one).

For me, it's because most of the time I see the article on Twitter before I read it, and then I read it and decide to post a link here, and Twitter provides a better headline and summary than would the link on its own, but I can easily add a direct link too (as I do with paywalled articles when I can).

I have a Twitter account since a few days too. I fought the monster a long time to keep it out of my life as well, but I surrendered now.
Twitter gives a quick possibility to scan a large variety of news sources.
And I agree with Innula that Twitter gives a better display with a photo and summary lines than a direct link to an article most of the time.

I'm pretty sure that, between them, the Commission's legal department and the Council of Ministers have that covered -- I think I remember reading that the Council has the power to apply the terms pending ratification by the Parliament (and if the Parliament won't approve it, then presumably the terms would continue while a new agreement was negotiated, and won't that be fun?).

Whether that's the case or not, I can't imagine either side would have let things get this far if the EP's approval were needed before the end of the year.

I still think we are heading towards a deal or at least an extention of the transition period to get to a deal.

France will stop lorry movements from the UK for 48 hours in the wake of fresh concerns over the spread of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK.
The move means outbound traffic from Dover will stop.
Ministers and officials will discuss the move at the government's COBRA emergency committee on Monday.
Freight from France to the UK will be allowed, but there are fears lorry drivers will not travel to avoid being stuck in the UK.
