I don’t know if Beto can win. What I do know is that he has given millions a voice, which we have not had for a long time. We have been heard.
It would be wonderful, amazing if he won, but I don't really expect it. Because Texas.

Which is one of the reasons I left Texas. That I ended up in West Virginia, possibly to my dying days, is a sure sign that the Universe is laughing at me.

Honestly, I don’t think many are expecting Beto to win the election. Here is how we are feeling:

I never heard of Southlake Texas. Just one of many small towns Beto has visited, in every county in the state. If he loses it won’t be for lack of trying.

Despite the huge visibility of Beto supporters, I think everyone would be shocked if he won.

But for many Beto voters this campaign is also about someone destroying the perception of Texas as a total shithole. Like Doug Jones voters did in Alabama.

4.884 million people have voted early in Texas. That is more than the *total* number of votes in 2014. Somebody is energized. A lot of somebodies.

Not being American, I never heard of him except for this thread, but I caught part of town hall type interview with him on CNN last night and was impressed. He has an unusual combination of relaxed confidence and sincerity that isn’t common in politicians. Not quiet humble, but a similar quiet non showy confidence that reminds me of Obama a bit. Someone you can trust with the burdens of power but that doesn’t exude authoritarianism.
Ok, I will cut you some slack since you are not from here and had not heard of him but the following should tell you all you need to know.

Back in 2016 during the time when either Trump or Cruz would get the nod the daily show started to have some fun. They debated which of the two should win (especially if the winner would be the prez). They honestly could not decide. He is not called the most hated person in the US senate (by both Ds and Rs) as a joke either, especially since he led a government shutdown from the House of Representatives (a legislative body he is not even a part of).

Gillum, because if he doesn't win, we get stuck with a racist, sexist asshole. But I'm still hoping for all four.

I've become seriously tired of just how often that's the choice breakdown.
Don't get me wrong, I -like- Gillum, and I like what I've seen of Abrams and O'Rourke. And Anyone has to be better than King. But Gillum is hopefully going to be my Governor, so that's my choice if I can only have -one- of the four.

I voted early. I voted a str8 Democrat ticket. Mainly because I can’t stand the idea of any rethuglicans gettin’ Inta office. (Man! That worked out well last time!) but also because, I admit, I haven’t kept up with the local stuff lately, what with gettin’ laid off * and the House flood issues and other stuff. I damn sure don’t want that smug-faced dominionist douchebag representing me Inna senate.

* yeah that tax break worked out so well. Got a $2 an hour raise! Then got laid off!

Closest to Rs on the ballot here were a few libertarians. Unless they were hiding out as a generic 'independent' listing, which some politicians do.
